another crazy idea

i have a 15 and a 21 mm lens which are mostly being used on the rd1 these days.

15 = 22
21 = 32

or thereabouts.

i'm wondering about scrapping these 2 and getting an 18.

18 = 28 or so...

any thoughts?

for me at least, an important factor would be the availability of a fairly accurate finder that took into consideration the camera's crop factor.

If it were me ... I wouldn't do it, at least in terms of pure focal length. 22 and 32 is a nice set, and 28 is so close to 32, but far away from 22 in terms of "look". If you aren't using the 15 on the R-D1, then yeah, it would make sense.

But what do I know from camera/lens whores?

if i think about it what i'd really like to do is have the 18 alongside the 15 and the 21...but that ain't likely anytime soon.

and while thinking i remembered that i just sent a money order for both the rd 15 and 21 finders.

Combining two lenses into one that will be more frequently used means also less dust getting on the sensor, only one filter size and one external VF. 🙂 I would go for it ...

The 15 isn't all that wide on your digital body. You'll miss it. If you're one of us that considers a 35mm on a film camera as "normal" you'll miss the 21 even more. Leave well enough alone. You're just fine the way you are. If you can burp you'll feel beter.

I'd say it depends on how you like to shoot, and how you see things. I'm very comfortable with carrying a 21/35 combo around, it works for 90% of what I see. But I find I struggle with a 28mm. it's either too long, or too short.

(unless it's on an SLR, then it's fine. go figure...)

Yup, I've had a 28/5.6 Summaron and a 28/2.8 Rokkor for my Leicas and never could get used to either one, but a 28/2.5 Vivitar on a Pentax mount SLR was heaven!
