nice story. I always keep eyes open on street/garage sales, because of stories like this, but have only found rusted FSU junk, at best

I do not consider Pentax ME's to be good finds but that is the type of thing I see.

$20 in case, ME Super at a show. I had no idea really what it was worth, so I paid it, only in the Fall, when students are looking for film cameras? Bought lunch with the profits, which is OK, some student will use it.

Paul,
A GREAT find, enjoy.
I have used Stephen's folks with my S2, sent it there directly from an EvilBay seller and it came to me smooth ready to shoot.
As you live in the Sun Shine State there is a guy down that way, Peter Smith who is to Nikons like DAG or Sherry is to Leicas (one of the best).
Do a search here or on the net and you should find some info.
On the topic of buying the camera for too little, bunk. You did the right thing. Now what you might do is go back and purchase some more stuff and drop it buy Good Will. Or perhaps go back and take a picture of her with the S2 and give her a print.
I too sell stuff for much less than it's worth, it's good to see stuff I've enjoyed find a good home that will love it as much as I did.

NIKON KIU
Did you say Nippon Kogaku
Nikon made over 56,000 of these, by far the most produced, there are more to be found in garage/yard sales...

That is a great find. I hope you can have it repaired when time permits. I have read that the leather on those Nikons was pretty nasty stuff, so it probably can't hurt to order replacement leather (or pleather) from one of the online places.
As far as taking advantage of the seller, you didn't, so don't worry about it. I once purchased a "used" camera from B&H for $500 for the sole purpose of flipping it. As soon as it came home, I photographed it, and sold it on ebay for $2000! I wish I could take advantage of them more often!
enjoy the find.

Well, at least I was correct to anticipate most of you would not share my point of view. I must remember to leave careful instructions for my wife![]()
I told my friends to look for a hell of a yard sale.
My executrix has some instructions, but people sometimes have to sweep up and clean out.
Goodwill has their own version of "ebay" now, but they also have people watching. I told them once to keep one of their P&S Nikons and use it to photograph what they are selling, they were posting some terrible photos, which sometimes makes people bid more?
The estate sales folks check out stuff they are selling often with ebay, which I hear is selling a lot at inflated prices, and people are still selling to KEH at the shows.

It worth alot when you are into it...it worth nothing when you don even know what is it.
When my late dad passed away, we started selling the piles of Hi-fi cds for $5 each...one day while flipping the cds, i realised that he actually labelled the price he bought the cd for...and guess what..he has some notes on some cd and some are limited gold plated cd. Running thru the forum again...i realised that i have sold them real cheap!
Some could have fetched me alot more times than the price sold for! Lucky those fellas!
Guess they are posting the same thread in the hifi forum then..haha

What a story. Many cameras are showing up in estate sales these days. Time marches on. And as folks get away from film, these cameras get more affordable. Especially the off brands. My new fascination is vintage Topcons from the 50's. Cool cameras. Well made. Great optics.
Every year I fight down the urge for a Nikon rangefinder. Cool cameras. Well made. Great optics. I just remember that old SP I picked up at a store one day -- the rangefinder patch was faded to a ghostly image. I've been spoiled by modern Leicas.
