another electro question

My electro 35 GT arrtived and I have noticed a couple of things. It was serviced a few years ago and seems in perfect condition, however I when I first depress the shutter I slightly hear something that sounds like a flash charging, is this normal ? also Im in the process of shooting a film with it and notice that when I select f16 the camera tends to select a very slow shutter speed which sounds a lot slower than it should be compared to when I select f11?

I'm finding It's a great camera to use, and I now know why people like black ones. twice people mistook it for a leica yesterday!

Some Electros make that noise when the shutter is about to release after a 1sec+ exposure - it's the twin solenoids that hold the shutter open. Not always a bad sign on its own. Could be that yours are charging noisily?

If you are getting unusual increases in exposure time, there are 4 possible causes that spring to mind, in order of probability:-

PoD - affects the shutter timing, as the sliding fingers are out of position as they move down, easy to fix, or
dirty tracks in the speed selector ring inside the lens mount - remeove the front elements and give them a clean, or
the capacitor in the exposure circuit is going bad - they are wierd values too (e.g 3.1uF) not too hard to fix with a tantalum bead, or
one of the resistors in the chain around the speed selector is going bad - difficult to accurately diagnose, but not too hard to fix.

Of course, I'm assuming that your battery is OK, and the test lamp lights brightly?

A CLA should fix this for you.

thanks, yes the battery check lights up nice and bright, and the speeds seem ok, it seems to be just the first time I press the shutter after some time of inactivity that it makes that sound. i have just processed the film so will soon know how it all is!
