Another M8 newbie...

Rec'd a used M8 yesterday...
Then, while at a dance rehersal, it froze 2x! Performed the "remove & reinsert battery" method & it functioned fine afterwards... then looking back I think the buffer was just full (although the red light blinked what seemed to be for ages). Too used to the machine gun style D300 I guess 😉

Anyway, this is one fine camera. Feels just like an M although it sounds a bit different. Handling was very familiar; it's as analog a digital camera can get I guess (aside from the RD1, which I've never played with).

Here's a couple from the rehersal: iso 2500 jpg, 35mm skoopar f2.5 @ 1/60th... have yet to try DNG.

Nothing fancy done with the above aside from boosting the contrast. Purpose was just to share a couple photos...

Congrats, jky! I'm a fairly new M8 owner too, and got mine used as well. As to freezes, I experienced a few at the start and "fixed" it with removing and replacing the battery, but it hasn't happened again. I now suspect that it was just the camera in "sleep" mode and I was just confused to see the displays dark with the switch turned on, and no immediate response to a shutter press. Maybe. Anyway, fine now.

I recently took this camera on an overseas trip of a couple weeks... Worked fine, and the pics look ok at first glance. A street confrontation, and a Leica user... 🙂

Thanks! Really excited to play with this more... it was quite a "should I - shouldn't I" especially after reading all the problems that people were/are having. Although you hear more of the bad than the good here on the 'net, when spending several thousand $, you tend to listen a little more attentively... BTW, used the camera today w/ no problems.
@Doug: if all goes as planned later in the year and no major M8 hang-ups, I'll be bringing this to costa del sol... glad to hear you had a good experience with yours; hope to see some pics!

Yep, things work better on the M8 if you go about things more slowly at first. It’s a more difficult transition when you’re accustomed to auto-auto everything style cameras. I’ve been shooting my M8 since November and only now can I smile when I look at some of my prints.
