This abandoned gas station is on old Route 66 in McLean, Texas. The Tokheim gas pump was made in my hometown, Fort Wayne, Indiana!

See all of my photos from my trip to New Mexico last month

So, Chris!

May I ask...when you were driving around West Texas, did you find a fair amount of interesting scenes like this?

I've been thinking of heading out there ...since I can stay at the KOA Kampgrounds with my doggies, and since they are discriminated against by regular parks and wilderness areas.

Your thoughts are appreciated,

Robt.

I was in the northern panhandle (the one around Amarillo, not the one around El Paso). Route 66 ran through there, and there is A LOT of old stuff like this there, a lot more than I had time to photograph. The nearly parts of Oklahoma and New Mexico did too. I drove across the Texas panhandle into New Mexico to Santa Fe, then down to Roswell, Artesia, and Carlsbad before going back to Santa Fe then retracing my way back through Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri to Illinois and finally back home in Indiana. This is one of the early photos from my trip....I have 30 more rolls of film to go through and scan from. I passed several KOA campgrounds in the southwest.
