another photography forum

Thanks, Brett. I am a Contax SLR user and have enjoyed looking at photos on that site. I still wonder why there are no Contax (SLR) discussion fora to be found on the web. C de Groot's wiki site is a good source of info, but appears to no longer be active.

Funny you posted that, Brett. I've been thinking evil thoughts, of late, of trolling the ebay for a nice Yashica SLR in Contax mount... 😉 Anyone got a suggestion as to which is best for that purpose?

I have a Yashica FX 103 which I think is a pretty good camera.

There used to be several but they all seem to have disappeared.

William, among the Yashica's I personally like the FR-1. It was produced alongside the Contax RTS, and is said to be an RTS without the Porsche design.

Trevor, I have an Aria and an older 137MA. I started off with a Yashica FR-1, which I posted for sale on RFF along with some other stuff earlier this month.

I had my wife's FX-3 CLA'd by Mark Hama about a year ago. The biggest problem was replacing the body covering, a common issue I think for 1970s/1980s Yashica SLRs. This is a real basic camera, what used to be called a student's camea, good for learning the basics. Lots of plastic. But while it isn't a fondler, its meter hits the mark better than the significantly more sophisticated systems in my contemporary Nikons, and in the CV Bessas that I also own. I've been quite surprised by the performance of this modest camera.

As far as the covering goes, they were in good company. The Contax models from that era also had coverings that would peel off.

Thanks for the tip on the FR-1. I'll keep my eyes open for one.

Thanks JoeFriday. My name is Rob, and I too am a Contaxslraholic. I'm embarassed that I put too much money into this stuff, so I won't disclose all that I have, but my favorite by far is the mechanical S2 - I wish I could afford an S2b to pair it with right now. I'm also lusting after the 55 1.2 Planar...not that I can afford that, either. The next step, of course, is a complete Contax RF set, black and red dials. I hope I live that long.
