Another one of the great Vietnam era war photographers has passed. Tim Page. Did some incredible work. Was a bit on the "wild" side. Supposedly the character played by Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now was based on Tim.
Best,
-Tim

Thanks Timmyjoe for the news, a bad one which I did not know.
Tim Page was a strong photographer, courageous to the limits of recklessness. His work is still powerful.
I do not have much personal interest in war photography, but "Requiem" the book published by Tim Page and Horst Faas dedicated to 135 photographers from both sides who had died in Indochina between 1945 and 1975 is an important piece in my collection.

Well-known
As I recall from a documentary, he got pretty shot up over there. Think he knew very little about photography before going over, if memory serves correct.

I took Tim's course at Griffith Uni. Amazing guy. He was kind enough to sign my copy of Requiem with a nice note. I'm so sorry to hear he is gone, but 78 is a good long life for a guy who was that careless about his own safety.

There is a British-Australian TV series about Tim Page's sejour in Vietnam and his relationship with Sean Flynn during that time: Frankie's House. You can watch the 4-part series on YouTube. Cheers, OtL

Thanks OtL, interesting. I'll watch it. Not sure how real it is but anyway worthwhile a try.
