For those of you who are fans of the new TV series "Dirt", Don Konkey, the quirky functional schizophrenic super-phtographer for the scandal magazine, explains why he always only shoots film in last night's episode, "Pap Smeared". In case you missed it, you can download it to your Tivo from here in a few days.

for those of us that don't watch television, much less have a Tivo - I don't suppose you could provide a summary of the salient points?

Nice to see film get a mainstream mention.
Now we need a celeb to go on Oprah and gush about their cool retro range finder camera...

Well, the whole episode is built around these goons who try to beat up Don to steal his photos so they can make the big bucks selling them to a scandal magazine. In one scene Don gets pounded and hands over some film to the goons to get them to go away. He then explains to his shocked assistant that he always shoots film so he has something to give to security guards, the police, body guards, etc. when they demand his film. It turns out that he always carries empty film cassettes for just such occasions. Sounds pretty mundane here but it is a very dramatic scene in the episode and much is made of it. Later, when Don returns to the offices of Dirt he throws Lucy, the editor, his roll of film with the money shot and she turns to an assistant and says, "Get this developed right away!" It was pretty cool for a mainstream, edgy, TV series.

In this same episode Don expounds on his philosophy of celebrity phtography and the importance of taking a picture that tells a "story" not just getting any old shot. It requires thinking, he tells his new accolyte assistant, something most paparazzi photographers don't know ho to do. Don is a major character in the show and the episodes often revolve around the drama of celebrity photographt. Last nights episode ends with Don's new assistant on a ventilator in the hospital, after being pounded to a pulp by the goons with a basball bat while he was trying to protect Don as he got his cover shot for the next issue of Dirt.

Highly Recommended Show - but one of the raunchiest ever done for TV. :)

He's the lead on the show, "The Finder". Deals with the varieties of finders, from built-in RF/VFs to accessory finders of all origins ... from early finders made by Kodak, Wollensak, Rochester Optical, to FSU, to the current Leica, ZI & CV finders.

It really gives you the view.

This is a TV show?

Where can I see it?

Don the schizophrenic photographer is my favorite character on Dirt, not because he's a photographer, but because he's interesting. I thought it was interesting (and odd) since the beginning that he uses film, considering his line of work.

In a previous episode, Lucy (the main character) asks him if he took a particular photo. He looks at it and says, "I would never take this photo! The composition is bad, the lighting is terrible, and it's pixelated, which means it's digital and I hate digital."

Of course, he's schizophrenic, so I don't know what that says about film users.

Your point being just what exactly?! :p

Going to have to check out this show. I saw one ep in which he shot the head of the dead guy, and while doing so the head was talking to him. Wasn't sure if he was using film. Now I really have to catch it.
