another strange question...

Easy peasy: My hands taken by another (or perhaps taken by a camera with a self timer.) Because that would mean that I HAD my favorite camera.

In the end a photo of hands is no longer hands but rather just reflected light being captured. Would you rather reflect the light or, be the one capturing the reflection?

That's too dangerous... you should make a photo of your hands holding a tag " I'm done !", this way you won't need to redo your avatar each time you "will be done" ... 😀

I prefer the avatar to be a proxy representation of the author. It's a tiny representation that conveys at a glance who authored a message. I recognize the source of a post more quickly by its avatar than the username printed above it.

For this reason, I'd strongly prefer to use a photo of my own hands holding a favorite camera, even if it was taken by someone else.

Perhaps its time to add another permanent forum here: Existential Nareshkeit, so we can discuss and debate these sorts of questions.
Others besides yours to ponder:
If a married man is alone in a forest and states an opinion, is he still wrong?
If a mime is alone in the forest and a tree falls on him, does anybody give a ****?
Oh. And Nareshkeit? It means foolishness in Yiddish.
