Looks like Eddy still goes with the one body/one prime ethos of the old days. That's pretty cool!

A pretty amazing man IMO. Also eclectic in his choices.... the Widelux, Xpan, & Ricoh half frame w winder..... & the Canon LTM 50 0.95.
He has a beautiful eye for composition in a terrifying world. I'll have to check out his books at the library.....not really the stuff i want to collect on a bookshelf....definitely the work of a driven and talented man.

It can be a bit of a choice if you like someone's work, but not necessarily want that subject matter on your shelf. I love Mary Ellen Mark's work, but have balked at getting her book Falkland Road. I'm interested in her work in Tiny: Streetwise Revisited, but again, not sure if I want that on the bookshelf at home.

Eddy uses some really interesting gear! There are some photos of a Fuji GFX (looks like a 50R) with an adapted Nikon manual focus lens and some kind of Leica Q with green top plate and stealthed lens markings. The logos are taped over, and it appears he tapes dials in place, too. Now I want a Leica Q, hahaha

Edited to add: I see now, it's a Leica Q2 Reporter, how appropriate. 😄

It is interesting that the Q is set to full auto: autofocus, auto-exposure. I'd even hazard auto ISO and auto WB. Expose yourself to as little risk as possible.

It's quite audacious to argue over who took that photo, and what camera took that photo, considering the hundreds of thousands of children who have died and also survived similar horrors. As for what I do, while you were typing your uninformed retort, I was counseling a below-knee amputee with a 20 year history of opioid abuse, and a 5 year history of life threatening infections (one of which caused the amputation). On top of that, this guy recently lost his father to metastatic cancer. My patient was his father's primary caregiver for the last two years of his life, during which everyone else in the family abandoned them, yet, my patient persevered. After the father died, the siblings got together, sold the house out from under my patient (who was the only one living there.) He was put out on the street and relapsed. So now he's in my care.
I'm eagerly awaiting your response to my breakfast question.

I wonder if your definition of gearhead is a little more pejorative than mine? Gearhead is a label I would wear, as for me, it implies a deep interest in gear that intersects but does not completely overlap its use.

Given the commonalities of his cameras, i.e. Leica and Hasselblad RF and Fuji RF style bodies with prime lenses, throw in a Widelux, he hasn't chosen those pieces because he randomly acquires them, obviously he chooses them because he knows the gear and they do what he wants. He even uses a Gordy strap! A less likely explanation is that he is given all his cameras and he grins and bears it; wouldn't that be a fun position? 😄

As much as we love rangefinders here, we all know RF and Leica limitations that may hinder a news gatherer in challenging conditions. No extreme high ISO, no class-leading autofocus, no weather sealing aside from the Q2 Reporter, high cost of replacement, RF need for adjustment after drops or impacts, etc. But despite this, Eddy chooses these cameras and lenses, which leads me to believe that he loves this type of gear, and gets a lot of it. Hence, gearhead. 😁

Good point Archiver. I also read a piece yesterday where at times he used/uses (?) his M2 & M4 ......securing more trust ....as the images can't be instantly transmitted (to the enemy...)
