I’ve been spending some time with the Voigtlander 28mm f/2 APO-Lanthar to see if it actually lives up to the hype of being a 'Summicron killer.' While the price gap is huge, the performance gap is surprisingly small—and in some areas like CA correction, the APO glass actually takes the lead. I put together a review on Pure Rangefinder covering the rendering, build quality, and how it handles on a Leica body. If you're weighing this against a 28mm Cron or even the Ultron, hopefully, this helps your decision!

Better than a Summicron? Voigtlander 28mm f/2 APO Lanthar Review

Also, check out the Voigtlander Nokton 28mm f/1.5 lens. An extremely detailed review with head to head comparison to the Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.4 lens with photos was done by Fred Miranda. The Voigtlander was as good or better than the Summilux in so many areas, including microcontrast, sharpness, rendering, lack of distortion, out of focus areas.....and at 1/8th of the price new. It may not be a "Summilux Killer", but it's a definite rival if you want a fast 28mm lens. Voigtlander is producing some excellent lenses to compete in the M mount space.

After reading that review I went and acquired one. A short time after that the 28mm Apo Lanthar came out. But I have no regrets … I probably would have still opted for the Nokton over the Apo Lanthar for the extra stop. What a great time it is for Leica M lens options!
