All I want for an Operating System is for it to get out of my way when I am taking over the interrupt vector table.
DOS does that well.

Unless you want software that is not on the Apple approved list. It is the security of Yevtushenko's Silver Fox. The safety of a locked cage.
I've spent a good chunk of time lately re-acquainting myself with the command line a few decades after I last used it seriously... only in Mac's Unix terminal instead of the good ol' MS-DOS I was using in the 90s. There's a lot of stuff to play with in Homebrew - some useful, some silly, and some that I don't know how I lived without while I was still stuck in GUI-land (for instance, I recommend playing with yt-dlp to download things from Youtube with no fuss - it's a lot faster and easier than any other method I've used over the years).
Apple have a reputation for being a "walled garden", but that's only really true on their phones and tablets. Mac is very open to tinkering once you start poking around.
I also run Windows 11 Pro through Parallels Desktop on an iMac Retina 5K. So far, no problems. My Mac Mini (Late 2012) is running Sierra with zero issues, with stuff like Adobe Photoshop and LightRoom. The only time I need Windows (XP 🤣) to run NikonScan for my Coolscan 5000, I use Parallel to run a Windows XP virtual machine. It works perfectly fine with the Coolscan. And there is no need to update Win XP as it is no longer supported by MS. (Tq MS). I am happy as is. 🤗
