any 35mm without swirly bokeh?

I have 35 nokton f1.4 that i like for it's compactness but it do have swirly bokeh wide open. Highlight in oof area become circular motion, this distrub people attention on the object being photographed. I'm thinking to get another 35mm lens which doesn't do this swirly bokeh wide open, but searching samples with my phone limits me to see the bokeh character of the lens. Any idea (no leica lens please,limited budget)?
How about vc f1.2, vc f1.7, biogon f2 or f2.8, uc hex, m hex,or even a jupiter 12? Thanks a lot

UC Hex is as expensive as a Summicron, so that's won't do you any good.

Look for an older Nikkor or Canon lens, or a Summaron (really not all that expensive), the Biogons are very good, including the Jupiter-12 (which is a Russian Zeiss Biogon copy).

I have used a 35/3.5 Komura, or an Acall, same lens. Not expensive when found, and tack sharp.

For budget, be prepared to buy an older LTM lens and an adapter. Gives you an excuse to buy a Barnack camera in the future too! 😉

Does the CV 35mm f/2.5 have swirly bokeh? I have heard that it is slightly better than the 1.4 overall, as long as you don't need to shoot faster than 2.5. I had a CV 35/1.4 and loved it, but I know what you're talking about.

Both for its OOF rendering and its fast speed (narrow depth of field) you could try a CV 35 1.2 to see if you like it...

The VC Color-Skopar and the Jupiter-12 are free of the swirls.

Vc f2.5,nope.i had it once and sell it as i dont see that it has special character to it. I think i'll try jupiter 12 first,then maybe an ultron?
I think that i saw,once,that the famous f1.2 nokton has swirly bokeh as well.any idea? Any user opinion on ultron as well?
How good is canon/summaron ltm compare to a skopar?

I tried to take some pictures yesterday, try to get the "swirly bokeh" and then stop down from there, but I couldn't get any swirly picture (well, it always cloudy these days). anyone can confirm this ?

The Skopar is an excellent lens, small, light, sharp and punchy, arguably more so than any 40-year-old Canon or 60-year-old Summaron. If you think the Skopar lacks character, and you want character but not swirl, what constitutes character for you?

The Nokton's out of focus areas didn't strike me as particularly swirly when using it. On the other hand, the Nokton and Skopar, for example, are vastly different lenses. What other criteria do you want in your lens, other than that it be a 35 and not swirly?

for a reason, I never see any swirl come out from hexar af lens.
Nokton and skopar alwas give me contrastier image more than hexar. While it give more punch for color, but makes highlight more distracting, as well as the swirl it produce.
Skopar give me less light compare to nokton, so i let it go for good.

It's not sharp that i'm looking for, but natural way of rendering, like a sonnar lens maybe, smooth and not distracting bokeh..
How about biogon/biogon copy? Hexanon? How are their character if you can describe?

As far as I know, VC f1.2 have swirly bokeh, but f1.7, i don't have a clue. Please advice.

35/1.7 Ultron wide-open on the Bessa R2.

I do not have any "hard-tests" uploaded for worst case. I'll try to get a better example.

Bottom Line: the Canon 35/2 in LTM "swirls", and I've never noticed the same of the Ultron. Seems very neutral Bokeh, and might be the aspheric design.

I agree with the Ultron 35/1.7 suggestion. But for any lens it may depend on a background. Yet Ultron or Biogon, IMO, will be just fine.
