Just curious - if you could have any camera, in any city to walk the streets with - what would you chose? Why?
Thanks

Moscow; I really fancy a trip there.
Fuji 6x9 RF with an assistant carrying a back pack of Kodak Portra (160+400), Love the sharpness of my GS645s so would love a larger neg Fuji.

Forgot to mention that there is no greater joy than wandering the streets of a city with a camera in my hand and my wife by my side.

Tokyo with my M8.2 and a 28 - Tokyo is a futuristic city, I would only shoot digital.
New York with my M6 and a 50, only in B&W - Classic city with a classic camera.
Paris with a 4x5 field camera, the best part about this city for me was the architecture.

I use my wife as an assistant... made her lug around my tripod all over london. Actually have several couple pics in front of monuments with her holding it..

I traveled to Colombia last year and I was particularly struck by the look of the south side of Bogota at night. I immediately thought of going back to do a night series with a 4x5 camera and color slide film. So that's my choice.

Lovely quote from a native of St. Petersburg (a staggeringly photogenic city): "Moskva! Hah! Is big village!"

And I think he's right.

Of the cities I know: maybe St. Petersburg, maybe Delhi, or maybe just Valletta. Arles is good, but so is New York. Of the places I've never been: well, I don't know, because I've never been there. I've been disappointed sometimes (Istanbul), and pleasantly surprised at other times (Levoca).

Camera: Leica, of course.

EDIT: Actually, it would have to be Ankh-Morpork.

Cheers,

R.

Cities - I don't know. Maybe Seoul since my wife's family is there. But frankly, I would probably sooner be in the countryside there. I'm not a big fan of big cities.

Camera - Probably Fujica ST 901 and Fujinon 50mm f/1.4, and 3 or 4 extra lenses; 19mm, 28mm, 135mm for sure. And of course film and a tripod, which I would carry.

Believe it or not, I might consider my Contax 167MT with 50mm f/1.4 and three zooms from 18 to 150mm.

My wife would have a digital P&S. That's enough for her with her fibromyalgia. Gad, I hate carrying a purse. :D

In the trash

In the trash

Oh Boy!
With me that tripod would be in the trash in under 30 seconds.
I would never make my wife lug my junk.
45 years togeather and counting :)

I guess we have to pick modern cities?

Tokyo, NYC, HK, Rio, Paris, St. Petersburg are all obvious choices and I wouldnt mind any of them but I think I'd go to Angkor.

camera... any M and the newest 35mm lux

Well I was carrying a MF and SLR kit, so I didn't feel bad asking her to carry my tripod. She didn't mind doing it either.

If time is irrelevant, then SF or DC in the mid 60's with a Nikon F, motordrive, a couple primes and a **** load of tri-x

Either Tokyo or Moscow with my SP and 5cm f/1.4.. But I always love to walk around New York, and that's much closer :) (shooting Tri-X @400 during the day, and @3200 at night)

Ditto but without my wife :)

well

I couldn't leave it there could I she might read this, as much as I love her there are far too many shoe shops and aren't they lovely comments when she's around. I prefer to wander alone with my camera.

Instinctively, a Leica and San Francisco. Film or digital, depends on whether this fantasy allows me a studio apartment or a fully equipped darkroom all to myself.

But the last time I was in New York (most recent Super Bowl weekend - I got out of North Texas for that one, it was actually warmer in Manhattan) I wound up leaving a bar about 1am in a light rain and wandering back to where I was staying, and I thought how much I wanted to be there with a 4x5 to capture the streets and buildings after midnight.

I already have an M6, that'll work fine though if I had the money I'd maybe use an M9. As for city, I'd spend time walking my hometown, Fort Wayne. I do that already, but I don't have time to do it as much as I want. I want more time and the money to free that time so I don't have to do other things.
