Any experience with a broken light meter on a Nkon FM2?

Hello everybody, I bought an FM2 about 2 weeks ago for a good price (at least I thought) and I realized at the time that the light meter wasn't accurate but I thought that it would be a cheap fix.....

Well, I brought it to my repair guy today and he told me that there is a50/50 chance of him fixing it and it would be 60usd for a CLA and to try to fix it...As of now, everything works fine on it and it doesn't need a CLA in respect to the shutter speeds working properly and there aren't any light leaks.....But when I look through my friends FM2, his is much brighter than mine and I am sure that a CLA wouldn't hurt.....

Anyways, does anybody have any experience in this matter...I should mention that the lights (LED's) work inside the meter, but the accuracy is way off....and yes, I tried new batteries too.....I should also mention that I think my repair guy doesn't work on cameras that have electronics in them very often...

I could always wait unti I am back in the states to get it fixed if it is possible i just dont feel like putting 60usd into it if there is a 50/50 chance.....as of now, the camera works fine except the meter....thanks in advance......

on a more positive note, I got my m6ttl back today from Serry K. and I had her install the MP finder...I am happy to have it back

The fm2👎 is very cheap nowadays. I have seen some "new in box" black bodies sold for around $300 or less.
I personally don't like the meter indicator much but it's good to have it in some circumstance, especially your shooting pace is fast.
Great camera. I sold one here not long ago and I recently bought another one since I missed it so much...

My FM2n meter is off appr. one stop but I can live with it because the error is consistent.

Talking of Nikon SLR's, I tested my friend's FE2 for a few days and am seriously thinking of getting one. Compared with FM2 you'll get exposure lock, TTL metering for the flash and an AE mode. All are features that I could use.

The amplificator wiring (with CDS measuring cells) can be replaced, i think.

If the peripheral stuff to the meter is causing the problem, it can be fixed. If it is the meter itself, the only option is replacement. Sorry, but personally, I think it sounds like it is the meter itself. I would have only put your odds at 10/90.

Mine was off 3 stops. I had the prism replaced for $50. Works great after that!

Though I have no experience of a broken meter in an FM2, I'd advise that you get it sorted, even if it costs you more than you paid for the camera.

It's an excellent built-in meter, better than any other that I have seen.

A good FM2 is a babe, fix it.

Thanks guys for the replies.....I am going to look around and see if there is anybody else who works on Nikon's that might have some better feedback than the guy that looked at it.....I would like to get the meter fixed on it if it is possible....not so sure what is causing the problem though......I am going to search online and see if I can find some information on how to clean the prism myself......thanks again
