I was wondering if Zeiss will bring out anything new and interesting. Like ZM 50mm Planar 1.4? Or even faster? Anyone heard anything?

I don't think there is any info on new lenses.
But if I were to make a wild guess I think that Zeiss's next lens will be like their last new lens, a slower, smaller and cheaper version of the made in Germany mega lenses so a 15mm f5.6 in the size of the 35mm c-biogon?

The ZMs tend not to compete with the CVs so I'd be supprised by a slow 15mm since they just updated the 15mm f4.5 to M-mount (I know there are exceptions to that rule, eg. 21/4 skopar and 21/4.5 zm). Between CV and ZM almost all the bases are now covered, except for a very fast 50mm. I guess a fast 75 and a fast 24/25 are also missing.

I got a good one. I would really like to see a 50mm tessar lens with an ultra compact body and maybe a 2.8 or 3.5 aperture. A lens with the classical tessar signature that is more throw back to the past then modern marvel.

It would also be cool but totally unlikely to see a compact 135.
I figure they will stick to reproducing the C/Y lenses in ZM mount.
I'd love to see a fast 60 for use on the M8.

I feel the need for speed, after the f4 85mm and 35mm f2.8.
So 50mm f1.2 or 35mm f1.4 please. Or 28mm f2. Are there any 28mm f1.4 out there, for those who feel the leica 24mm a tad to big (and expensive).
Please, please please do not let Zeiss release a f4.5 25mm. There current f2.8 is a legend of a lens. A 25mm f2 would be more interesting.😉

That would be interesting. Not really my cup of tea, but I bet a 50mm f/2.8 tessar would be of interest to a lot of RF folks.
As for 75mm, 90mm, 135mm, I can't see Zeiss making M-mount lenses for focal lengths that don't have framelines in the Ikon.

I'd be all over a 50mm f1.4 Planar. Love the Sonnar, but would like a more modern fast 50mm that doesn't cost the earth.

The Party Line at photokina was that the new Canon-mount lenses were taking up so much time and production space that they were too busy. I don't know if that's still the case, but it explains some recent history.
Also, there have effectively been two 'series' of ZMs, the Japanese-built and the much more expensive) German-built. The latter are intended to be 'landmark' lenses, unique in design or highest possible quality. The current economic climate militates against new lenses in this series, though of course, they are far from impossible.
As for a 50/1.4 Planar, as it would be competing against both the Nokton and the Sonnar at the same focal length and (effectively) the same speed, I think it unlikely. But I've been wrong often enough before.

Do any of the current ZM lenses use aspherical elements? I think decent performance at wide apertures (f1.4 or faster) would require something like that. Older fast lenses all seem to have lots of "character" wide-open.
Anyway, I just want an affordable, relatively compact, Japanese-made 85mm (probably f/2.8).

I still think the most interesting lens in the Zeiss line is the 50mm Sonnar. This lens was designed with the emphasis on the look and feel of the image rather than extracting the very finest performance possible - which they'd already achieved with the 50mm Planar. I would like this concept to be continued, with versions of older classic lens designs being produced - Tessars, Heliars, Biogons etc - not as marketing names but as true re-incarnations of the vintage original. I'd happily accept the trade off between the look and the performance.

The Heliar wasn't a Zeiss design, although you might argue that it really was because it held a part of Voigtlander for years and then was part of Zeiss Ikon near the end of the latter's existence.
I think one post had it right -- I don't see mid-focal length lenses appearing that don't conform to the framelines. Plus, the 75mm length was a Leica length and not Zeiss. At least, that was true of its Contax offerings.
A f/1.4 Planar might be interesting, although it would put it into competition with the f/1.5 Sonnar. And I suspect a f/1.4 Planar would be a physically large lens.
A f/2.8 50mm Tessar could be a possibility, and then you would have the option of f/1.5, f/2.0 and f/2.8 in what generally has been the most popular focal length.
Also, a revival of the collapsible f/2.0 Sonnar would certainly be fun to have, or possibly a collapsible f.2.8 Tessar.

I think in time of crisis Zeiss is glad not to have to launch anything, and is probably happy adding the Canon mounts to the existing ZF lenses... In the ZM line, I would definitely welcome a compact 50/2.8 Tessar, but also a high quality 28/2 Distagon and 50/1.2 Planar...

A second hand konica 50mm f1.2 M mount sold for over £1000 recently on the bay (UK); I think a f1.2 50mm ZM lens would go down very well (would fill the gap in M mount lens f1.5/f1.4 and the f0.95).

Otherwise they could come out with a Tri-Elmar project at half or 1/3 of the price..

With all the 50mm lenses on offer I cant believe that people still want more of them! Please Please no more 50's, I would prefer something new and unusual.
