Any new lenses in ZM line coming?

I want someone to make a modern 50mm sub f1.4 with the same character as the VC 35mm f1.2. I would jump on a 28mm f1.4 or a 24mm f2. The 28mm seems like a pretty open market, the 24mm as well if they can keep the size reasonable (as opposed to Leica's gigantic 24mm f1.4). A 24mm f2 would compliment a 35 f1.4 and a 50 f1.2/1.4 very well for those of us into that range.

In September at Photokina perhaps Zeiss could give the world a 50mm f/0.85 😎 ... and a DRF body.

Probably not. Vignetting, focus shift, sheer size and difficulty of focusing all militate against it. The biggest you can fit through an M-mount while retaining half-decent centre-to-edge performance is about f/0.95 (surprise!).

For once this is based on inside information, talking to Zeiss and Leica optical designers.

As for a DRF, I doubt it. How big is the market? How many suitable sensors are available? And Kobayashi-san's aversion to digi is well known.

A 1.4/35mm in ZF (Nikon F) mount sure would be nice... The 35's in the Nikon lineup date back to the Vietnam War period and it shows.

A Bi or Tri-Elmar type lens would be great. I would go for a 2.8/35-50. Interestingly Zeiss already makes these sort of lenses for cinema production. I believe they call them variable primes.

The trouble is, Zeiss ciné lenses make Leica still-camera lenses look like bargains.

More fast glass please, prefereably wide, and certainly rangefinder coupled.
I would love to see an f/2 offering at 21 or 24mm at much lower cost than the summiluxes ..... or an f/2.8 lens at 18mm to compete with the slower Leica offerings. Another great lens would be a 1.2/50, as mentioned by plenty of people already in this thread.

a super compact 25mm would be nice. I could live with F4 and tiny size happily! The 21 4.5 I would love to have (I have a 21 2.8 which has amazing performance and I bought for a prject where I need the aperture, but the smalller lens would get more general use). A 25 f4 would be welded to my camera. I know the CV is out there, but I have been less than amazed with their QC and like the ZM line's consistency.

A tiny super flat collapsible 50 2.8 would be nice too.... doubt that will happen!

I agree. Their 35mm f.4 has the same mass as the ZM 35mm f2.8. Two stops faster and the same weight. Want light how about the VC 35mm f2.5, now in M mount. I have to say a 50mm f1.2 or a 35mm f1.4 would be to my taste. But, would I really use them at there wider aperatures. Well I am now testing myself. Have purchase one of the original 35mm f1.4 nikkor (a complete snip - and in great condition) and put it on my F2. If it gets used alot, a f1.4 for the Ikon would be in order (less weight and less radioactivity...gulp).

Zeiss could fill in the gaps between their current linre up and leica's. That is, 15mm f4.5, 18mm f2.8, 25mm f2, 28mm f1.4 (expense), 50mm f1.2/f1. However, people would probably more likely buy (which is important) 28mm f2, 35mm f1.4 and 85mm f2.8.

I vote for 35mm 1.4 and if they do make it, my VC 35 f/1.2 and my Zeiss 35mm f/2 go on the market.

I emailed Zeiss the other day to ask for a 50/2.8 Tessar "C" - collapsible preferably 🙂

The American rep just said he'd pass my request onto the factory.

What they'll do for real, I have no clue, but it was fun to write them anyway. Last time I did they swore up and down there would never be EOS mount lenses... 😉

I would rather not leave the compact lenses to CV! The Zeiss ZM lenses are of higher quality and it would be nice to have that in small packages. The 21/25P from CV can be superb, but no infrequently suffer decentering and other issues, so if the lens could be made with much better QC so you get a sample performing to the max, it could be worth paying for. Every once in a blue moon there is a sample that performs exceptionally well in the outer field in all four corners, but it seems most dont. I would personally pay for that performance, tiny package and good build. f4 works for me too.

I hope they re-release the ZM15 with RF coupling. It is a real pain getting right focus wide open and close up. I ended up switching to ZM18.

We need a 85-90/2.8 Sonnar.

For sure I would be interested in a new ZM 90/2.8 Sonnar with the flare resistance of the newer ZMs.

Come on now, they only just released the f4 85mm, it's other focal lengths turn. If they do release a f2.8 50mm, it had better be the best 50mm (illumination, resolution, distortion etc.) on the planet...at all apertures, or it will sell less than the f2.8 35mm😉
