Any news on the new Plustek 120 scanner?

Regarding price. I still have my Nikon, but when that goes, I would rather have high price than low quality. I can use my V-750 for lower quality. Right now, I can't afford this scanner, but I'm glad that they are shooting for better quality... at least that is how I interpret the price. If not, the market will lower the price.

Judging by the number of views on this thread, there is a healthy market on RFF for a new film scanner.
 
Assuming performance on par with or better than the Nikon 9000ED, the price seems fair. People scoffing at the expense would not have bought the Nikon when it was available, either. Now, used Nikons sell for huge premiums over their retail prices when new.

I think we need to be more realistic about the cost of such things.
 
The price may be justified for the quality and target customer. But for many amateurs here on RFF like me, were hoping that these would be affordable. Bummer, its not. I will stick to a Canon 9000F flat bed as well.
 
They also should sell it without the Silverfast SW, guess that would let the price drop by 200 till 300 Euros and make it a bit more affordable (higher sales numbers Plustek !).

Take for instance the medium format scanner Reflecta MF 5000. That costs € 1275,-- but if you buy it with Siverfast Ai Studio 8 the price rises to € 1675,-- !!

On the brighter side, maybe this will drive the prices for used 8000's and 9000's down.

Of course, not if you want to sell yours.

Nope, that lucky!

I believe the news of the incoming Plustek 120 already started driving their prices down. But I cannot justify them.

I think I will start enjoying wet B&W and RA4 printing even more. 😀
 
it's probably just suggested retail, let's wait and see what the market will bear. I do hope it's a reasonable price, I do get good results from Canonscan 9950F, but it's not perfect. LOL, what ever is?
 
Works out to about $2400 at manufacturers suggested retail. That could end up at as low as $1900 in the store.

I have a Nikon cs9000 and I'm happy with it, but I don't see a problem with the price of the Plustek.
 
I'm not in the market for a scanner but if the price is 2000EUR or even 2000GBP and the the quality is as claimed, i.e. as good as a drum scanner, then the price is defintely worth it IMO.

That is a very very bold claim. If it holds up then Plustek are to be congratulated. But now they have set expectations that high they better deliver otherwise they will have a lot of unhappy bunnies giving them hell for a long time to come.

I haven't seen anything saying its a 3 line sensor or 6 line or more. That would be nice informataion to have in advance.

I've just had a LS9000 fail (firewire port blown due to loose connector) so I'm very interested in this scanner. However I'm holding off purchase until there are reviews available, in particular addressing 120 film flatness and focus performance.

Nothing much really matters here until we see image samples and have a definite price. Whatever claims are being made about this scanner's potential are pie in the sky until there are some real world examples to be viewed.
 
There is a scanner comparison test at largeformatphotography.info. It's getting a bit old now but one or two current scanners are featured there. Now if the plustek is as good as the ICG 350I featured there, then it'll be pretty good. If it ain't then...
Time will tell.

It doesn't matter much what claims they make beforehand and I think people have learned not to hold scanner manufacturers to their marketing promises especially when they are rather vague.
What will matter is whether or not the scanner delivers good quality scans that satisfy the needs of the people who can and want to buy a scanner in that price range. Even at the suggested price it's still way cheaper than a good drum scanner or a Flextight so I doubt that anyone truly believes the quality will be exactly the same as with those scanners. I have a Nikon 9000 and the resolution leaves little to be desired but the imagees still don't have the same look as if they were scanned with a drum scanner.

That $1900 is still just a fictitious number. Nobody knows yet what the US price is and whether it's going to be available below the MSRP price.
I think it's also been made quite clear that you cannot buy it without Silverfast so bury your hopes. As far as I understand it Silverfast will be the only software included so it would be silly to expect them to sell it without SF. I don't know of any company for consumer electronics that would sell their hardware without a software to run it. I think it's safe to assume, though, that you're not paying retail for SF when it's bundled.
