Any news on the new Plustek 120 scanner?

Too expensive in the UK from the pre-order prices we have so far. Quite a number of UK based film shooters I know are of the same sentiment too.

Has this long discussed scanner been unveiled with a fanfare and cucumber sandwiches at Photokina..?

Yep ... it's fast getting to the stage of ...

"If you want my money show me the damned scanner, tell me the price and show me some sample scans!"

:p

The scanner is in the Plustek booth at Photokina. I'm not sure about the cucumber sandwiches, but if you are there, you might ask them!

Also if you are in the NYC area during PhotoPlus, please stop by the Plustek and take a look. If you go to our Facebook page, we are giving away free expo tickets. If you don't do Facebook, drop me a PM and I'll send you the info for the free tickets.

Still no samples? I'm sure people are more interested in seeing the actual scans rather than the scanner.

There can be only one explanation for the lack of samples. They are embarrassed by them and ashamed to show them.

PLEASE NO !!

I hope not ! I ordered one already, yes, I'm an impulsive buyer...

How about at least some Photokina reports? Are there actual prints on the wall made with scans from the Opticfilm 120, at the Plustek booth?

If Colour film is no longer available by the time the Plustek 120 or the scans become available, will it be available at a discount without Silverfast?
Seriously, Mark, it's Photokina! We need to see some scans before we sell up for that Hassy Luna.

The Hassy Luna proves to me, that the end of the world is near....

I'm just trying to figure out where I can pre-order a Leica M-E!

But seriously, the real story with sample images is the samples that I have seen were all just snapshots that had issues with the photographs (out of focus, motion blur etc). Posting these photos wouldn't show you guys anything... other than the scanner creates really big files!

We should have images to show shortly. (Way before my Leica M-E arrives!) LOL

If anyone in the Rochester NY area would like to loan me a few good color images, I would appreciate it and maybe even buy you a beer! PM me if you are interested.

The scanner will only ship with SilverFast but I have been talking to VueScan so we should have a solution for VueScan fans.

If film is no longer available, the scanner will be available at a big discount!!!!

Mark, As you don't have reference 120 negs (hard to understand, if you have developed a 120 scanner) how about posting some 35mm scan comparisons from the new 120 v's the tried and trusted 7600..?

This sounds like an invitation. Mark, are you open to hear from RFFers who might contribute negatives they think are worth scanning?

Yes, but I'd like to try to keep it in the Rochester/Syracuse NY area if possible. My travel is really going to start going crazy in October (on the road every week) and it would be easiest for me if I could pick up some negs when I am back in town and then return them later.

On the other hand if anyone in DC, Chicago, Indianapolis, Atlanta or NYC wants to buy ME a beer, I'd me happy to meet up with you!

I can't believe that a company manufacturing what is effectively a high end scanner doesn't have sample scans to show because they have no 'decent' negatives that are worthy!

Surely by now someone could have put an MF camera on a tripod and produced a sharp correctly exposed negative of 'anything' to run through the 120?

We're not looking for art here!

Mark,

we are not trying to be insulting but are frustrated.

If the Plustek was not such a compelling introduction we would not be so excited and filled with hope.

This doesn't make any sense unless the device doesn't work yet. A company is making a film scanner but they can't find one piece of film that is good enough to scan? Even when potential customers offer to provide their own, the response is something about being very busy. Sounds like vaporware. Has anyone seen this in action?

Yep, I'm also very concerned by the statement that there has been no good film to scan!! :(
If I was flaunting the statement from Vuescan regarding its quality being equalled only by drum scans, I would be quick to have early samples compared side by side with the aging coolscan 9000, As it's something I would want to show off to a bunch of people waiting around eagerly with their wallets in hand!
