Any news on the new Plustek 120 scanner?

This oughta be good. I want to see/hear first hand info based on the current RFF user base :)

Cheers,
Dave

And I found one locally, that was ordered but not picked up at a decent price :)
Now I have to schlepp it home...
If it's outer packing is a not a Plustek box, open it, and inside should be a Plustek box with a neat carrying handle which makes schlepping a much more comfortable experience.

So I finally got mine, and had to overcome Silverfast on my Mac first :)

It ships ith 8.0.1r18 that immediatelly crashed when I tried to launch it. So I downloaded the newer r19 and installed that one. Crashed, again. It finally worked when I uninstalled Silverfast with the included shell script and did a clean r19 install (the version from Lasersofts homepage)...

I just did two scans yesterday, a 6x6 Tri-X and 35mm Portra. The Tri-X scan looked good, but the Portra scan was pretty bad. But I think this has more to do with Silverfast, not sure yet. I have to set up my raw scan / colorperfect workflow first to judge this. The Portra profile included with Silverfast does a horrible job.

What really struck me was how FAST this scanner is. Twice as fast as my coolscan 4000 easily. Even a 3000 dpi scan of the 6x6 negative was completed in no time.

I also had problems with 8.0.1r18 on my Mac (OS X 10.8) and I plan to use the scanner with my PC (under W8). I hope Silverfast will be more stable under Windows.

I look forward to being able to use Vuescan with this scanner though...

Regards,

S.

Ed Hamrick is still waiting for a scanner on loan to add support for it.
I imagine Plustek will send one after the preorders are fullfilled. Let's hope it's as soon as possible. :)

Me, I'm also worried about the scanner. Lack of any focusing (not even height adjustment on the holders) and no infos about single-pass multisampling. :(

Is the scanner fast, or are you simply not doing multiple samplings, or multi-pass?

I bought this scanner last friday (I was trying to do it sneakily without alerting my wife but left my wallet in a taxi; had to call her to come pick me up & buy my scanner for me - I will be paying for this for some time to come) and I'm reasonably happy but there seem to be some quirks using the silverfast software.

The most annoying issue is when scanning using the 35mm film strip holder - the scanned image appears to be offset so I only get full images of a single strip - the second strip frames are all cropped. Means I can only scan one strip of 6 at a time. I've contacted SilverFast support about this but no reply yet. not sure if it's a holder problem or software issue.

I have the same problem. Plustek told me that the Silverfast Working Pilot wasn't meant for multiscan and that I had to use ADR scanning instead...

You are worried about multisampling? Why? Is there a recent scanner that doesn't do it? I'd say no info about multisampling is because it's obvious and not because the scanner can't do it.

Right?
