Any of you use (LED) hotlights?

I have been using Fluorescent hot lights for a while now for product shoots with large volumes. I also shoot video, for which Flash is useless. I like to be fairly portable as well, but don't mind bringing a few lights.

I have been looking at various LED lights, and have a few small "on camera" type" ones that give great results with video. With High Iso capabilities and live-view on newer camera's. I was thinking to get a bigger set of LEDs for video, but perhaps also for photography. They work on batteries, don't get hot and the quality of proper brands is pretty good. They also seem useful for rangefinders, just put a small LED on the cam to light up a face/person on the foreground, and you can meter as always. The roto-light, though pricey, seems fit for this.

I was looking at the Flolights range for when a proper lighting setup is needed:

Any of you guys have thoughts or experience of using LEDs in addition to natural light, or even as a replacement for strobes? I know that this forum prefers natural light style photography, but I am a rangefinder user too, so I am interested in you guys' input.

As video and photography are merging in many fields, I think we will see these lights used a lot more in the future.

Cheers!

I have no experience of these but the principle sounds great. Constant lighting with little heat output. It would be very useful in portraiture as the modelling can be judged very easily. Not so with flash. (except studio models)
