I heard from Alex at Popflash yesterday that the A12M units will be in tomorrow...any one else taking the plunge and adopting one?

I'm really curious to try it out. I've been using the GXR since the summer and have enjoyed it. When I put the deposit on the A12M I started recollecting M mount lens, quickly getting a Canon 50/1.4, CV401.4, CV28/2 and then selling the 40 for a CV35/1.2. And meanwhile I bought an Epson R-D1 whimsically to use while I waited. I've been falling for the R-D1 so we'll see how the GXR does when it arrives. That high iso performance will be welcome, for sure.

So am I the only one?

Yes, I have mine since two days. :)

Feels great on the camera.

Pics?

No way.

I am still waiting for my first m-lens. The Jupiter 8 is on its way from Russia since two weeks. :bang:

I have pretty much made up my mind to get one of these. Waiting on a few more early adopter reviews and comments, plus on selling some R glass to fund the project. I may just also wait long enough to get a good look at the NEX-7, too. Maybe. Possibly.

I'd love an M8 or M9, but not gonna happen. Maybe. Possibly.

He!!, I don't know.

Mind will be in my hands the day my dealer gives me the call, which should be any day now. I'm excited about testing a whole batch of lenses on it, particularly the ZM Sonnar 50/1.5 and Nokton 35/1.2. The issues of focus shift will be no more with the GXR module, as I will see exactly what the lens sees, not what the rangefinder tells me.

Is this thing shipping in the US yet? I've got a pre-order in with Adorama, but it seems a couple photogs in the US have got there hands on it.

Mine just got here. Good ole Priority Mail, shipped on a Friday from California and arrived on a Monday in New York.

Took it out, slid it on and, attached my 35/1.2 and...where is that damned cat when I need it?

Initial impression:

Nice! With focus assist on, it's reminiscent of rangefinder focusing...or maybe a more accurate analog is the micro-prism screen at the center of many film slrs...where the image gets kind of gritty when in focus. I think I'm going to call the focus peaking stuff "Dust" in honor of the His Dark Materials trilogy.

The inset magnified view is not very good still. But hit the OK button a second time and it will use the whole screen to show that magnified view with excellent resolution. That's the ticket for nailing focus. When you push the shutter button it switches back to the whole composition view.

It reminds of shooting with a Leica III-series camera with the separate RF and VF windows, except I don't have to bounce my eyeball back and forth between two tiny holes.

My three lenses seem to work well on it: the 35/1.2, 28/8 and 50/1.4 (the last a Canon). All seem softer wide open than on my R-D1, but I haven't scrutinized the R-D1 images closely enough to say for sure. Also what appears to be softness might be some veiling glare, particularly on the old Canon 50/1.4.

I posted some examples on flickr. These are all really boring photos. I'm not going to go nuts labeling them...you should be able to figure out by difference in FOV which lens is which. I tried to shoot a few wide open and a few stopped down to f4.

I couldn't find a cat. Sorry everyone, I know the disappointment.

Sometimes my flickr uploader (juploadr) doesn't change permissions when I ask it to. Now it should work. Let the yawning pixel peeping begin...

...btw, these were all OOC jpegs.

No ultrawides unfortunately. I have the A12-28 lensor, which is about as wide as I can handle. I thought of adding a Tokina 11-16mm with a Nikon-M adapter, but then I realized it doesn't come with an aperture ring like I remember. I know there are F-Nex adapters with levers to operate apertures of G lenses (F lenses w/o aperture rings) so maybe one for M isn't far behind, if the GXR gets more popular for M mount users.

When I had the 11-16 on my old 40D, I really didn't know to do with it.

Adorama is shipping!

Adorama is shipping!

Just a head's up, it looks like Adorama has started shipping their batch. I checked my status earlier today and it was pending, and then re-checked after lunch and it was changed to "shipped".
