any problem to leave the M9's lens detection sensor exposed to light?

I am mounting a LTM lens with the original Leica 5cm ltm->M adapter on my M9. Because of the cut out on the adapter, the lens detection sensor on the mount is not fully covered by the adapter.

I know any knock or hit on this area will damage the plastic window definitely. But how about leaving it exposed to light for long time as it's not fully covered by the adapter?

Any problem or known issue?

Hi Robin,

Whilst I have used the same adapter and left the 6 bit sensor exposed without problems on a few occasions, I would still suggest getting a covered LTM to M adapter. For most lenses, a fully covered type II adapter is fine and readily available. For lenses like the original Elmar 5cm, there are a few specially cut out adapters on the bay that has the sensor portion covered (and milled for coding at the back), and the right side cut out to allow the low profile infinity stopper to clear the adapter and move towards 1m.

Leaving the readout sensors exposed to light will in no way damage them.

The only reason this subject came up is because the M Typ 240 would show a "lens not connected" message and refuse to operate with a cut-out adapter.
This has been rectified in the new firmware.
