Any reason other than weight not to get a Fuji GW690III? Any big downsides to it?
Also who services and what does a CLA usually cost? Will fuji take them or is there any Fuji expert (the John Hermanson of Fuji if you will).
Whats a good price for one in decent condition? Anything I should being looking at in particular when purchasing one?
Also just to double check. Does the epson 4490 scan 6x9 film? I assume it does but I want to make sure I don't miss out on any expenses I should factor in.
Thanks,
Chris
No, except no meter (which I prefer). I don't know why everybody thinks this is such a heavy camera. Bad press and haters. The III is not nearly as heavy at the early interchangeable model, and I carry two of those. One for my 100 lens and one for my 65.
My Fuji's... small and large (645 and 690) including my GSW690III are all serviced by Frank Marshman, Camera Wiz in Virginia. He can get new parts from Fuji, as he did with my GA645Zi about a year ago.
Price.... Hmmm. Time is your friend on that one. The inventory in the used market is very good, with high and low spots. You can buy an excellent plus III for $700-800. You can buy a user for $600 approx. Check KEH. They always have a good range from Ugly (which usually aren't) and probably have the biggest inventory outside of eBay. I find their prices quite competitive.
Lastly. Yes the 4490 has medium format capability. The film holders are CRAP!!!!!!!!. Same with the holders on the V500 and all the Epson scanners in general. Look at the Betterscanning film holders.
Anything else??
We can talk and talk and talk. You won't be fully informed until you load one and go shooting and then processing. Be sure to be sitting down when you open your first envelope of transparencies.
By the way, be sure you talk to someone about the "tricks" on properly loading any horizontal transport 6X9 medium format camera. You'll blow a couple of rolls and experience spacing problems until you learn how to load the film tight when closing the back door (keeping pressure on the takeup lever to keep the slack out of the film roll.)
Oh, pardon me... you didn't ask for that last part
