Any RFF-ers buy a Sigma DP2 Quattro?

I think I will pass.

To me the charms of the DP series are 99% of what most folks complain about. I like the slow, deliberate approach they demand. They tend to bring a "film feeling" to the digital realm that has long ago been lost by the faster this and the higher that the inexorable march of technology brings.

Now, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with that and there is certainly nothing wrong with Sigma attempting to mainstream their offerings. I just don't think the Foveons will ever be direct competition to the Fujis and Sonys of the world and I would hate to have Sigma lose site of what makes them special in any such chase.

Personally, I sold off all of my new Sigma kit and replaced it with the DP1x -one of current photography's best kept secrets, especially at under $250.

I am close..to buying.... The complaints about the grip is my only hesitation.

I plan to use this camera as my main monochrome camera.. The low res raw mode would restore the 1:1 RGB relationship and may have the creamy look of the pre-Merrill cameras..

The complaint about the camera body being too big for their current camera bag does not bother me since I use messenger bags converted for camera use.

From what I have read so far and the shots I have seen on the Internet, if u are mainly using for color and u tend to use between iso 100-200 anyway, the upgrade from Merrill is probably going to be marginal.. They say color accuracy has improved but micro contrast is not as good.

The pre-Merrill cameras to me were not known for their micro contrast but I don't remember any of their owners complaining as well. Jeff, what do u feel about it?

I am looking for a dp camera used in monochrome mode that I can shoot up to 1600 or 3200 w/o having to play the blue channel game. Iso 6400 using the blue channel game. For me, this maybe reason enough to upgrade. If I was a color shooter, I would be hesitant.

I plan to play around w/ the low res raw mode as well. I don't plan to sell off my Merrill cameras because from what I c so far they provide a different look.

Forgot to mention.. One of the things I was waiting for was a less bugging version of spp. Nice I figured out what was going on with the latest (6.0.5), it was time to think about the Quattro. So far, though I have heard complaints about spp, no one is saying anything bad about the fw update that I can find so far.

If one falls from the sky, I will try to catch it and certainly use it. In the meantime, my logic has been more like Jeff's--even slower and more deliberate and working round the photoblog-flogged 'inconveniences.' In short, I just bought a low use DP1 for $160.

I was just curious. I wouldn't even think of buying until the DP1 version comes out... and even then, it may be a mistake for me.

Must be my rapid aging, but I forgot a very important point with regards to my comments above. I just made the connection 30 seconds ago while placing an order for a Nex 6.

Specifically: I already own the Sigma E mount 19 and 30 -every bit the equals of their amazing DP brethren. The reason I did not feel a need for the new Quattro, is that I already had a more "mainstream like" camera than the DP -my Nex 5n with the Sigma lenses. I just ordered the 6 to bring that sense even more to the forefront. At current prices, it ought to be a really fantastic combination, and a great complement to my DP1x.

it´s not on my plans buying a quattro...i don´t understand why they made non important things larger...and the most important things were kept as small as previous versions...

The merrill could have been upgraded with a faster lens and larger battery...
