Any Rolleiflex TLR users here?

In praise for Ikoflex

Most people would say Rolleiflex is the best. I have a Rolleiflex with the xenotar lens. And a whole serie of Ikoflex: coffecan, ikoflex Ia and Ic, also Ikoflex II a and Favorit.

Which one do I prefer for shooting ? Ikoflex IIa.:)

The Rolleiflex is a liitle bit better wide open position ,but it stays at home because I am afraid to put it in my bag and dammage it ...:mad:
 
I've just bought a Rolleiflex 3.5T, which seems in excellent condition and has a clear and bright viewfinder. I shot my first roll with it this afternoon, can't wait to see the results. I feel quite grown-up now :)

I've never used a TLR before, I liked the whole experience immediately, it felt a very natural way to compose a shot.

My first roll is drying at the moment. The negs are HUGE! They look pretty crisp too (HP5+). W00t :)

I have a Rolleiflex 3.5T and 2.8F, and I like taking photos with them a lot : the lenses are great, and people really open up on seeing such an old- fashioned camera. The depth-of-field and and sharpness are very good, and bokeh too. Taking photos with such a historic dinosaur feels also good, and I find the square format of giving the photos something extra.

To some extent, Rolleiflex TLR systems are like a coupled rangefinder camera : there is no flipping mirror, the distance to the subject is measured with 2 images that have to coincide for best focus, with a mechanism coupled to the main lens, and not through it. Ok, it's not with 2 overlapping images, but it comes close. Normally though, they are not known as rangefinder cameras.

BTW - did you know that the rangefinding technique was used in WWII to estimate distances to targets for guns and bombs ?

Can't wait to put something slower like Pan F through it.

At the moment I´m waiting for a Rolleiflex F, finally a 80mm 2,8, so Wednesday is the day for just waiting for the mail ;)

Bought it from a collector i Norway who got it from a store in London about 3 years ago, and there it had lived its life on a shelf. Shutler is cla´ed and the cells i the meter is new. Kind of strange to be the first user of a camera that age.
The collector was almost scared when i told I intended to use the camera ;)

So tomorrow i´m going to look for some delta 100 and a superia 400 for the late night shots.

Rolleiflex 2.8E

I have a Rolleiflex 2.8E (164,XXX) in excellent condition... I just shot 6 rolls with it over the weekend. The meter works well - it is just a fine camera to use. I have an original Bay III hood. So much fun to use.

New TLR user :)

I received this morning my new acquisition: a Rolleiflex 3.5F (Planar). It's not mint, but it's in a pretty good (exc) condition as you can see. I failed the first loading :bang: but all is ok now, I took some pictures to make sure it works fine. Wonderful camera!

The meter is working fine (it gives me the same measures as my Sekonic L-308, so I guess it's ok); but I need a diffusor now, because I prefer incident light measuring.
I'm eager to go out and make some street shots ;)

Congrats with your new cam - its a nice one for sure.

I think most users of the Rolleiflex TLR have experienced a roll or two of those mishaps. The Rolleiflex 2.8F has a nifty mechanism so that it doesn't transport the film when you have put it the wrong way in, which is very handy.

Nice camera Marc.

I managed to load my first roll successfully, but only because I had a detailed hands on demonstration from a someone who'd done it before. It becomes easy very quickly.

Great camera, you'll love it.

OK if your Rollei is metering accurately, I'd suggest you shoot a roll of slides (if only once), you will be blown away by the results, and you won't believe what you see.

Tricky self-portrait there Marc, it took me a second to work out what was going on. Enjoy that 3.5F!
