I have only been abroad once with my M7II and the rangefinder went out of alignment on that trip (over the atlantic). It did not suffer any impact or such as far as I know, and I was close to it all the time. It was a warranty fix when I finally came home.
Was I just unlucky, or is the rangefinder prone to go out of alignment under such circumstances? What can I do to protect it? Padding is an obvious idea, but I have to stuff the backpack under the chair in front of me so it will get into crammed space no matter what I do. Ideas, thougths?

My 7 went out when I went to Portugal. Not on the flight, but right after I afixed the 150mm. I had to fix it.
It's very easy to do, and if I get another 7, I'm carrying my lil screwdrivers I bought in the Aki store (Colombo mall). The procedure is in the repair forum.

No problems with alignment due to flying

Been to Europe several times with my Mamiya. Also flown all over the USA. No problems to report from anything travel-related. (dropping is another issue altogether)

Well, over the last five years mine has been all over the world. No problems, rangefinder still perfectly aligned.
