Looking at Japanese TLR's anybody have one of these and how does it compare to other Japanese models quality wise? I see there are some with Nikkor lenses.

I've just been looking at aireslfrex tlrs on PicClick UK (shows ebay listings all on one page that you scroll down), and on G*^gle and it seems while they have a range of models, from those with round lens barrels which may be push-on or screw-on to those with bayonets, (presumably Rollei 1) and while they have different ranges of shutter speeds and shutter makes, even those with f3.2 viewing lenses have darker viewfinders than my Yashica 635, and with a huge amopunt of vignetting, although sveral do have finders that seem bright right in the middle, I think an after-market screen is more or less necessary, (even though there are some photos that seem pretty sharply focused I've no idea if they have the original screen). Some of them come with Nikkor-Q lenses and some with Zuiko lenses.

They weren't made for very long so who knows if they were good or not. Let's hope other members have some info on quality and reliability.

I've just found this link from a website which shows the difference a new screen (and new mirror) can make on an Airesflex:

Here's a link to a page on the Lomography website with some test photos of an Aireslfex that has speeds to 1/300th and a "Coral" lens, taken by "BERNDTOTTO":

Pretty impressive photos, and if you want the typical triplet type image, it seems the Coral lens is the way to go.

I hope you find one with the Nikkor lens. Aires had the Airesflex and the Aires Automat which is a later model. You may come across one or the other with the Nikkor glass, otherwise many of them have Coral lenses. Here's a recent example from an Airesflex with the Nikkor. Film is Fuji Provia 100F.

Nikkor lens is my preference but finding a decent price with no fungus is challenging. Waiting on a Rolleiflex to be delivered now. post office let me down today.

CP93, I've just seen a wikipedia list of Aires cameras and your camera was made by the same company. Interestingly, the company started off as "Yalu Optical co.ltd" and had a prototype camera that was clearly inspired by the Contaflex tlr but it was never offered for sale, as dealers who'd received the prototypes were apparently not impressed.
