I'm considering ordering film-processing equipment (tanks, chemicals, probably some film) from Freestyle. Anybody have any feedback for me? Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any local shops any more that do much more than sell frames, digital processing from your cards, and maybe some overpriced film. Freestyle prices look pretty OK, so I thought I'd take a chance. I'm as interested in shipping time as I am in price.

I order film, paper, and chemicals from Freestyle all of the time. Normally very fast shipping, I have no complaints.

No complaints from me. Shipping is fast, and not a rip-off. You can actually call and speak to a friendly, knowledgeable person if you need to.

Real brick and mortar place, VERY knowledgeble staff [in the strore] they are small compared to places like SAMY'S, not a big selection of cameras, but they are THE place for HOLGAs.
I usually go direct, but have done mailorder with no problems

There's my Proctor-Silex!
Real store, not a warehouse, with a knowledgeable staff. However I have only bought from them in person.

Freestyle is the greatest. I go to the store, not mail-order, but have the utmost confidence in them. Have no reservations about buying from them. In addition to Holga (as a previous poster mentioned), they are generally fully stocked in medium-format and large-format film - somehting few shops can offer anymore.

I've bought from them before, and have been quite satisfied. Definately intend on doing more business with them in the future when I'm in need again.
They also have a pretty cool catalogue/magazine that they publish and mail out. you'll prob get one w/ your order, check it out... awesome advice/opinions at times!

I highly recommend them - I buy from them all the time and they ship very quickly to me (and I'm out of the country!). I do, however, recommend that you comparison price shop on more expensive items because sometimes you can get it for less elsewhere (but one should do this for any expensive item).

I order film and paper from them and find that the procedures are excellent. Usually for us Canucks, ordering from the U.S. can be a bit of a hassle, and shipping can be downright painful, but from Freestyle everything is transparent and the shipping costs are honest.

I've ordered film and my wife picked up a great contact printing frame for me from them, so far so good!

I've ordered mailorder from them a couple times I didn't want to drive over there, I had absolutely no problems. They're 70 miles away from me (in LA traffic) and every now and then I drive down there on a Saturday morning just to do a little shopping and get out of town and I always spend a bunch of money on film and developer and stuff. Its a great store!

Ah, Freestyle...knew they were still alive and kickin', but this thread is a nice reminder.
And, speaking of reminders...way, way back in time, I remembered someone slipping me a roll of Arista b/w film. I recall staring at the box and asking "What the hell is this?" At the time, I was only used to stuff in yellow boxes (or, occasionally, red...I discovered Agfa CT18 slide film around 1974). Can't recall what I thought of the stuff, but I know I used it at least that one time. Anyone here regularly use Arista film (supposedly made in Germany by someone...have a sinking feeling it is/was Agfa...), and, if you have, or still do, what did you think of it?

Freestyle private labels various b/w films under its "Arista" label. If it says "made in Germany" it most certainly is Agfa film stock. But other brands of European film are also marketed under the various Arista labels. There is Arista II (Agfa, I thnk), then there is Arista.edu, and other Arista variations. Some of these are film stocks from Efke, Foma, and Forte. The Arista films have changed over time, so you can't go by what was called Arista 5 or 10 years ago.
