I wonder if it is made in Germany. Is Cosina now capable of producing lenses with floating elements? The expensive 15mm Zeiss was the only ZM lens so far not being produced in Japan, as it was the only lens of that lineup with floating elements.

Anybody has visited Photokina and tried ZM 35/1.4 and Ultron 35/1.7?
I glad if can see the shot result especially at wide open 1.4 or 1.7.

I have sent Zeiss an inquiry on their Facebook page about the size differences, and they were so kind and posted a photo showing side-by-side the 35mm from them:

Well, it ain't small that's for sure....
It might not be too big, however

Compact (according to Zeiss) not small, I think behemoth is closer to the mark

It's like the evolution image.
I was looking at the right of the picture for the Nokton 1.2

I've just put the Nokton 1.2 II next to a 50 Planar ( same length as 35 Biogon) and it actually looks shorter than the new Zeiss

You are right Nigel, but let's keep in mind it's a double aspherical with floating elements. The image quality should be extraordinary...

Nigel, I think you are right about that based on the lens height and width measurements I've seen. I think the CV 50/1.1 and 35/1.2 are probably decent references for the size of this lens.

Agreed. Plus 49 mm filters? Who even has these. I'd have preferred they kept it a bit smaller and sacrificed something else performance wise, but thats just me.
It seems this is the new direction for Zeiss. All out performance, with huge size and cost (quite a departure from the original ZM lineup which are all reasonably priced).

I held it in my hand, tried it on a M2 (modest, kind off ,viewfinder blockage) and on a M6 0.58 - usable with this finder. You can still see the barrel in the finder but not too much encroachment in the view.
I suspect this is Zeiss answer to the Summilux 35 Asph FLE. One of the "damned the torpedoes - full speed ahead" designs. Basically make it as good as you can, let the size be what it is. Did not "feel" heavy and as usual, great feel in the focussing ring. I am tempted - but will desist - at least for the moment!

Bazinga. You got me.
(I was secretly hoping that no other Zeiss lens had a 49 mm filter thread, but the E mount 35/2.8 does - its the only other one in their current catalogue, yes, I looked)
I was really hoping for a 46 mm filter lens size. I wonder if the filter size even crosses the designers minds these days (other than, "we'll sell another set of filters")?

People with the 75 Summicron.

Exposing since 1969.
I have one on pre-order. Looking forward to using it on my M9-P. The size is tiny compared to SLR 35mm/1.4 lenses, but if I want to go light I’ll just mount my C-Biogon 35mm/2.8 or the 28mm/2.8 Leica ASPH.

i admit to being very attracted to this lens, however the size might or might not be a deal breaker

I don't know, I read somewhere the length is longer than the 1.2II. On paper it doesn't seem to have much edge over the VM.

On ISO 400 B&W film that I use frequently, the small and compact NOKTON 35/1.4 SC is probably the better value for money.

Thank you I see it now. Very interesting going with the three cemented pairs in that configuration. This is a well thought about lens.
