I'm in the middle of another book, Bob, but my wife is wrapping up Good and Evil, so I'll be able to live vicariously.
SCAD is high on our list of activities, and I'm surprised to hear Jeff knock Tybee. We thought it would be a fun day out for the kids and we'll be taking our kites.
In any case, I'm glad that I've at least sorted out the camera question... I'm taking the Contax on this one.

It sounds like you'll be visiting in the days leading up to St Pats day. Savannah has a huge party for St Pats day, green beer flows like the Savannah river, it's something to see. Activities are beginning in preparation for the big day. Near River Street and Bay Street are where the majority of the bars and pubs are. Paula Deen's place is a bit south. There are a number of restaurants in the downtown area, I'll second Molly MacPhersons by the way, good ale selection and the Scottish Meatloaf is delicious. The squares are good for strolling and photography. Tybee is okay, it used to be called the Redneck Riveria but things are better now. There's also Fort Pulaski on the road to Tybee, a nice place to visit for a history lesson. It has the distinction of being the first fort to have rifled cannon fire bring down it's walls. Gator with Burt Reynolds was filmed in Savannah as well as the old version of Cape Fear with Robert Mitchum and there are recognizable scenes in both movies.

If you're traveling back in time, Savannah is a good place to do it. This seems to be The Thread That Will Not Die! We moved since my 2010 post here, and now Savannah is not far from us here in northern Florida. I can't wait to go up there for a visit, as I think it's just a short train ride away. Ever since we went to New Orleans a few years ago I've been dying for some good gumbo. Florida just doesn't do that sort of cooking, but I should be able to find a decent bowl up there. Here's a shot from maybe 20-25 years ago when I last lived there. It's not a very good scan. I took it w/ my first real camera, a Canon AE-1 w/ a 50 1.8 lens that was purchased in a downtown Savannah thrift store for $13.50. They even took an out of state ck for it, which was nice.
