Anyone done business with MW Classic?

Yes, many times, with no problems other than sometimes slow replies to emails (which seems to be endemic amongst photo shops anyway)

I bought my first Leica IIIf and a couple of lenses and just after Christmas this year I bought a lovely M2 from them.

No problems with email, although I find just phoning them is quicker. I work not too far away so can drop into their 'shop', which is a real Aladdin's Cave of 2nd hand camera equipment floor to ceiling.

The two guys who run MW Classic, David Woodford and Mahendra Modi are great people to deal with, who love 'traditional' film based photography.

I bought a few things from them, and they're very nice guys. Amazingly, they shipped something to me via DHL, and it arrived on my doorstep in Baltimore the very next day.

Not a place for the absolute mintish but I've bought ~20 items from them, from cameras to filters, all works. Quick and friendly as well.

have bought from them, the only downside was they missed their promise on shipment once.

You can haggle too, perticularly if the item has been on the shelf for a few weeks :)

They're nice guys but sometimes a bit disorganised, and their stuff usually isn't mint. I've probably done 10 purchases from them. I've had a few issues with them, including:

1) Ordered and paid for camera. Didn't arrive. Called them 4 days later and they said "oh we sold that to someone else, sorry, we'll refund you"
2) Bought M4. Didn't arrive. Phoned them up and got "we sent it to be serviced". Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, I sat tight. Arrived 10 days later, but the "tulip" was missing. Had to send it back, and their service guy put the tulip back into the M4.

Their prices are good, and they're nice guys, but I think you need to be prepared for the MW Classic experience! :D

Sorry what do u mean? Who is Nicholas?

I do actually need MW Classic to mail/ship to me in asia......
London second hand dealer, and long -time advertiser in UK photo mags. To invite opinions here, would probably fill four or five pages! ....'nuff said! ;)
Dave.

MW Classic is great for user cameras. Used them plenty. Give them a ring - they know their stuff. I think they used to run Rollei servicing from the same premises or something too. They often have very good (user grade) Rollei bits and bobs, and ship very quickly.

Bought a LTM 50/1.2 described as excellent and arrived with a lateral 1cm scratch. But prices are good and they're ok to negociate with.

I've purchased a lot of equipment from MW Classic and never had a problem with them.

However, I always do the following:

a) Contact them by telephone or e-mail to obtain a more detailed description of the item you're interested in. Both Mahendra and David are genuine, honest dealers and will help with any questions you may have over condition, whether the item has been recently serviced etc.

b) Ask if there is any guarantee on the item. Some cameras I've purchased from them in the past they've provided a guarantee on - which was not listed on their website.

c) Haggle a bit over the price - I've always found that they're open to sensible offers on equipment.

Finally, although I've never used this company before (possibly fairly new??), you may also be intersted in having a look at their website:

My experience has been pretty much the same as above. I have had two experiences where they took my order and shipped it to someone else, and one where they sent a substitute product (not the one in the photos.)

They are very poor at email, which I find odd for dealers that spend a lot of time updating their website.

They normally only update the website on Friday and then wait for the orders. They seem to be on the road alot.

They are contactable by phone and do have a real address and office. Always worth phoning, as the photos do not always do justice to the better/worse condition of the products.

I had a problem with them the only time i dealt with them. I purchased a camera from them(by phone). They then emailed me later (3days later) saying they sold it to a walk in customer. I called them again and they said they would straighten it out. I called them again (1 week later) and they said they were shipping the camera. Two weeks later they sent the wrong the camera, then they sent the right camera a month and a half from the purchase date) but charged me $350 extra and the camera turned out to be nothing as to what it was described. They never refunded my return shipping on the return of the wrong camera($35)and used the excuse of the 2nd camera as being a consignment so they would not refund me. I sent maybe 15 emails and called them about 10 times in 3 months and they said they would work on it, 6 months later i have not heard from them. They will try to stick it to you if you let them.
