Anyone Else Using Capture1 Beta?

I have been using Capture1 4.0 Beta to convert my raw R-D1 images and have been impressed with the results. I really like the color profile C1 has created for the R-D1. Unfortunately, the program is still a work in progress and its interface lacks some basic functionality. On the plus side, the Beta is completely free to try.

Has anyone else tried C1 Beta and what are your impressions?

Waiting for the next Windows build for 64-bit Vista support. Current build bombs on launch and the error reporter bombs as well! 🙁

I have been using it and find that it gives me the best results over Epson Raw and ACR. Though I always have to change the default noise reduction to zero. Haven't found a way to make that change permanent.

I also quite like the GUI - and the price 🙂

Well, the price is right, giving that the Beta version will expire on 1st of November...

Although I don't like the user interface and the file handling of Capture One 4, I must say that the colour reproduction of is excellent. Many of my Epson RD1s shots look very good without any tweeks.
Much in contrast to ACR: I have spent lots of effort to create an optimsed camera colour profile for it (see http://fors.net/chromoholics/ for more info), but the results are only applicable to very similar lighting conditions.

I want to use the capture 1 pro 3.7 i was using with my ex (CANON 1DmkI) but it does not recognize the ERF extension. where do I go to set the raw recognition?

I agree with John, setting noise reduction to zero yields the best result. If I want to reduce noise in an image, I use Noise Ninja. The final version of C1 4 will probably have a settable noise default, something C1 3.7 already allows.

Regarding C1 4's price, remember the available Beta is not the Pro version of the software. The Beta is the upgrade for LE (Less Expensive) version of C1. You can buy a license for C1 3.7 LE for $99 and an upgrade for C1 4 is included at no charge. If C1 is giving you color you love, $99 is not exactly an outrageous price.

Regarding georgef's question, I have used C1 3.73 LE with ERF files without any problem. You should probably reinstall the program using the most current version. The program does rely on a R-D1 camera profile in your color profiles folder. If you deleted or moved that profile, C1 would probably not be able to handle ERF files.
