Anyone ever contested a Red Light Camera ticket?

I've been driving for over 30 yrs and I have never had either an accident or a ticket.
I just received one the other day and I know the front of my car was over the limit line when the camera snapped me.
I continued through the yellow as it turned red and in California that is legal and it was the safer thing to do than try and slam the brakes on at the last second.
$500 ugh I could use a lens rather than pay this.

Got one in San Diego that I didn't contest. I didn't know then that the company with the contract was gaming the system, minimal/sub-minimal triggering distances and short short yellows. Millions and millions of dollars. The city was forced to take the whole thing out when judges started tossing the cases.

Back in now, supposedly with a 'clean' system/contract. Sure.

$500 is a lot of money for a red light camera ticket. It is $50 in New York. My wife got a couple of those, but we just paid them. Since they have your car on video, what would your arguments be? Strong sunlight in your eyes?

For $500 it is worth contesting and seeing if you can make a deal with the prosecutor for a lower fine.

I got one years ago but didn't contest it. I clearly ran a red. Since then the state ordered red light and speed came removed. It was mostly a money grab. I have contested a couple of speeding tickets and won.

I got a red light camera ticket when they were first installed in NYC in the 1990's.

The first photo showed my vehicle not yet up to the stop line and the light red.
The second photo showed my entire vehicle past the stop line and the light red.
There didn't seem much point to contest it and risk the points as well as the fine.

I believe now you can go online and watch video of yourself running the red light.

Five hundred dollars?!!! Yep, sounds like a easy money grab for the local municipality. Meanwhile what precent of drivers are driving around with a suspended license and no insurence. Ah, but harder and more expensive to catch.

Not clean though if they rig the trigger for the light at a shorter distance than nobody other than Fangio can stop...

In most states they are about to be dismantled as unconstitutional. In my state, AZ, they have to physically serve you the ticket. The one you get in the mail tries to scare you into admitting your guilt and sending it back in checking the box that says so. I and most people here just ignore them when they come in the mail. They have to send a person out to your house and hand it to you. I live in the country and can see anyone coming up my drive. Right.

Actually, the number of accidents goes up in most places that install the red-light cameras.

I called the company that runs the cameras and asked if there was video.
Turns out this one does not have video.
The other thing is that the picture is only from the front and it does not show a picture of the red light.
I have to assume that the numbers on the top of the picture are correct and it clocked me at 26MPH in a 40MPH zone.
I remember vividly when the camera took the picture and I actually slammed on the brakes briefly and realized I would not be able to stop and would end up in the Busway so I continued through since immediately after the Busway is another light and a busy intersection with a green light.
It's such a scam.
