Anyone got a pimped Nikon F2?

No pimped F2 for me, more like a Nikon SP that is converted to "Apollo"

Akiva, I love the two step mod by Pete. Which brings up two questions after seeing the video:

1. Who else is left to work on F cameras?
2. Where can I get a DE-1 prism for the F2?

😀

1. Pete can never be replaced RIP, Pete.
2. John Hawley in Oregon has done some work for me. Smart, quick, cheap.
3. Good luck on the Prism, maybe John knows. Maybe KEH.

Dave,
If by "pimped" (and I really dislike that term) you are referring to aesthetic customizing (replacing leatherette with lizard skin, or repainting the metal in fluorescent orange or some such) then my F2 hasn't been pimped.
However if the term includes functional customizing, then yes, mine has been..........( ugh) pimped.
I designed a custom base plate for my motor drive which I had machined.
I added a nylon strap complete with Velco fastening, and attached it to the camera body and motor drive. Now I have a wrist strap that allows me to carry the camera easily in one hand regardless of lens attached, when I shoot on the street.
It worked so well that I made my own plate for my motorized FA and had another machined for my motorized FM, so now they all have wrist straps.
DE-1?
Ebay or KEH are your likliest sources.
But you might get lucky finding a F or F2 with a meterless prism on Craigslist.

Eh..sorry...by the title of the thread I mean whatever you folks have done to customize, personalize, or otherwise modify your F2!

I like what you have done to yours and find that to be very creative. I don't yet know what accessories and such are available, let alone what I want for the camera, ie-lenses, filters, etc.

I have just now got it sorted out, new seals, the meter works okay and I am getting used to shooting it around the house just to see how I get along with it. So far, so good. Not crazy about the thin strap on it so will change that soon.

Keep your ideas coming in folks, I think this is an untapped resource for F2 users...😛

There were all kinds of accessories available, including a wrist strap (HS-1). If you Google Nikon F2 accessories, you'll come up with a ton of information on what was originally available, although some of the items are now rare, and difficult to source.
Unfortunately the HS-1 is exceedingly rare and so very expensive. I saw one on ebay for about $400.00, so decided to make my own.
A quick trip to Nikon Canada yielded a photocopy of an old catalog page showing the HS-1, which gave me enough insight to design my own base plate.
$75.00 to have it machined from aluminum, and $3.00 worth of Velcro which I sewed to a nylon strap from a back pack from one of our kids, a couple of metal key rings for $2.00 and volia.
I never post pictures of my gear, because it looks like everyone else's, so I never saw the point. However, if you really care to see what I did, let me know and I'll post a shot of it because it is unique.

I guess there's no real customization except the sippy-cup-lid for the lenscap on the metal hood, and the dents in the working-perfectly DE-1 finder. Added some extra colorful doodads in the foreground.

Watch craigslist for the DE-1. I got this one, along with a second in really nice condition, along with these and other filters, along with a Gossen Luna-Pro SBC meter for $50!

I used to have the F2AS with the whole deal, MD/MB and the DS12. What a monster but it never let me down and I probably had it for 20 years. Great kit.
