Anyone got a pimped Nikon F2?

Hey, quick question for you F2 owners...I have almost finished a roll of film and the meter is checking out perfectly...I do wonder if the shutter speed knob should be easier to turn when the aperture is already set. It is definitely a bit stiffer than I think it should be but maybe my fingers are just not gripping like they used to.

When looking through the VF, should the shutter knob spin somewhat freely even with the clicks, or should it be stiffer?😕

Does brassing count? 😀 I'm using my fathers F2 that has had it's share of wear and tear... I've thought quite much how could it be changed to make a better camera, but I haven't really come up with anything.

Oh, I dunno...maybe a Luigi case? The right strap? Black/brassing/DE-1 prism/motor drive/ etc. just for starters? A lady must have her dignity with the proper clothes to wear.😉

Come to think of it, I have never seen anyone with the flash on an F or F2 either.

Dave--shutter speed knob should have some resistance, but not be stiff.
The F2 was my first real camera--bought new in Novato CA in 1972.
I took some good snapshots of the family and the Golden Gate during that time!

My F2 with the MD-2 & MB-1...the Motordrive and Battery were given to me along with a few other items from a good friend....
I love the brassing on the eyepiece...it just might be the third one on there...I keep losing them...
I placed the picture of our son in the film memo holder because most people think this is a digital camera...so I show them the picture on the back and that usually satisfies them...
Love the sound when shooting this beast...
Everything works, the meter is very good...it's just heavy but that really doesn't bother me...it feels great...
I was messing with it the other day...thought it had film but no it's empty right now...

Sover Wong seems highly regarded. He told me he'll work on F2 and F cameras. I'll be sending him my F's FTn head for a CLA and battery service.

Sover is certainly doing a great work on F2, but he doesn't touch any F. For any F2, I strongly recommend Sover.

Probably right on the bodies, but he explicitly told me he would service my FTn head.

Thanks for responding to the serial # inquiry. Not sure of the "recognized" date for the change over to the AutoIndex system. The years 1977/78 are the dates that "officially" signified the intro of the then, 5 "new" Nikon cameras, the F2 (A & AS), FT3, EL2, FM & the FE in 78.
You have a very special camera from an important period in the history of Nikon. To some it my be just another lightly used F2A camera but to others it is a survivor from the high water mark in purely mechanical SLR camera production. With the introduction of the F3 in 1980 & from that point on, there will be a steady introduction & reliance on electronics to provide & monitor functions which were entirely mechanical before.
The purely mechanical design is the attraction for me of cameras like the F & F2 and the Canon F1, SLR's and Nikon SP, S2, S3, Leica M3, M2, M4, M5, & M6, rangefinders (I could continue with this list but not now). This preference in the use of these cameras (some may say it is obsession, I call it a passion) is why I enjoy RFF. 😀

AI was introduced in mid 1977, a 780xxxx number would be a year earlier (even before the introduction of the non-AI F2SB). Cameras produced after the introduction of AI start at 786xxxx - but as dealer inventory cameras were upgraded with DP-11/DP-12 heads prior to sale, and as photographers asked for new cameras to be fit with DP-1 or DP-3 heads for years (to match their existing lenses), there is no single serial that divides pre and post, even if the camera can somehow be identified as originally having been purchased in that finder configuration.
