Anyone got some photos with a Nokton 50/1.5?

Am on the verge of buying this lens now.. as some may already know ;)

Was just wondering if you guys would have some pics taken with it? Preferably some nice informal portraits? I've searched around pbase, flickr etc and haven't been able to find a whole lotta pics, though Ray from the forums here showed me a couple of pics of his (Thanks Ray!)

Slowly but surely I think I'm gonna end up ditching my DSLRs and stick to film, Rangefinders and my 2 pre-Digital era Nikons, ie. my F90 and my FE. :D

Hi Bertram you have some very interesting shots, I enjoyed your website :) I like the pic of the people mingling at Ile St.Louis, Quai Bourbon.

Thanks for sharing on those Nokton shots, though the scans were a little low rez on some images, the Nokton really looks sharp.

One concern however is that it also seems to be a little harsh on how it renders the bokeh on some light situations, though this may not be a fair comment on my part until I browse more photos consistently. Thanks! :)

I have a sot like this taken with my 50/1.5 wide open at home. When I get back tonight I'll post it.

Sometimes, when the source was smaller than the webpresentation, it helps to click on the "view original" link below the pics:

Hope the link works. There is a considerable loss of res at pgallery pics when the gallery has to resize a pic to the gllery limits,, and the scans were small 1.6MPs from the lab CD. The prints look better of course.

No matter what I end up doing (i.e buy an R2A and move into M mount, or buy the Nokton 50 in LTM) I'm really enjoying these photos! Do keep them coming if you have some nice CV shots to show in 50mm! :)
 
I took all 10 photo's in my gallery (except for 1 with jupiter 8 ) with Nokton 50/1.5. The scans don't seem to be very good though.

I'm enjoying them too. Oh, and I too have been in very long deliberations regarding any potential future RF venture.....
 
Hi, All

Very nice work in Japan, Fredus. Makes me realize once more how much can be done w one lens. I was wondering how hard it is to focus the nokton on a Bessa R. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. This was about a week ago, indoors, with minimal lighting. The Nokton was wide open and my shutter speed was 1/30s. Unfortunately my point of focus was a couple inches back from where I wanted it to be :bang:

It is out of focus. a bit grainy too. Maybe it's too dark indoors and hard to focus accuratly w f1.5.
How's this 1.5 compare to Jupiter 50/2?
Have you heard Fed Induster 61 LD, it's a 4-element 53mm f2.8, Russian lens?
there is a Japanese guy Uzuraman in his elaborated M4-P site likes it a lot.

So you bought the 15mm?

You know that, if you are from R. Palos Verdes, CA. those houses start at at least 2 million dollars?
Taipei is hot hot hot in Summer, so I go to Southern California almost every summer you know, dry-heat, cool in the evening. I bought a house in San Gabriel City, 0.6 million start, lots of Taipeian/Chinese bought houses in the next city Arcadia, it's now at least 0.8 million starts now., unbelieveable.

If you look just past her hand to her necklace, it's sharp. I was a bit wobbly when I took it, leaning back from a stool, and leaned in slightly too much. The part that's in focus is sharp (the necklace behind the hand) it is just wrong...I meant to focus on the hands :p

How's this 1.5 compare to Jupiter 50/2?

Totally different paintbrushes. The Nokton is sharp & contrasty but can be "harsh", the Jupiter is smooth & creamy but very low contrast. The Jupiter makes a great lens for portraits.

Yeah and I've almost bought one a couple of times off of eBay. For the price, it seems that you can't go wrong...but then I already have 2 different 50s with differing properties. I'm not sure I'd ever use it if I got it :)

I've had the 15mm for awhile. I was after the 21/4 but I actually ended up getting the 25/4 Snapshot-Skopar. I've gone through a couple rolls with it so far mounted to a Bessa L and will probably develop them this Sunday...depends on the weather. If it stays this cold it'll take too long for the negs to dry and they'll end up with tons of dust. I'm taking all my Voigtlander stuff to the Miramar (Neihu?) tomorrow for some people-shooting while my wife, sis-in-law, and twins go shopping so I'll probably have a lot of film to do on Sunday. :D OT/

I know. RPV actually has greater land value then Beverly Hills and Brentwood. The only place that beats it is Pacific Palisades. But when my family moved there it was less developed (25 years ago) and the value of the dollar was different. I'm sure they got a *much* better deal. :)

Yeah, last time I went home I had no problem finding a decent fan twan for breakfast (Monterey Park :cool: ). In the inland areas like Arcadia, the San Gabriel valley, Burbank, etc... land is (relatively speaking) less expensive but the standard of living is similar to everywhere else in LA/Orange county. I used to actually commute to Burbank from RPV for work every day. :bang:

So what's the meaning of buying more Arms? more arms means China's going to deploy more missiles aimed at where I live--Taipei. 24 Billion US dollar is going to drive up tax, VAT etc. Now, that's a big deal compare to Chinese buy a small house in SG valley.

Racism against Chinese is historic. Racism still alive and well in US too, look at the Katrina desaster, how your FEMA treats Black Americans, big shame!

As of that 50mm 1.5, a good performer no doubt, blocking the viewfinder is no no for me.

Sorry, I wasn't being racist, just making a joke as the San Gabriel Valley is 1 of the most Chinese places in the U.S. (& I meant that in a good way).

FWIW, I happen to be a 2nd-generation Chinese-American & have a lot of friends & relatives who live in the San Gabriel area (including an aunt). My grandfather was 1 of Chiang Kai-Shek's generals (chief of staff for the "800 Heroes" who fought in Shanghai in '37), so please spare me the lectures on Chinese/Taiwanese & American politics/history. No rant here, either.

I was trawling the net for more Nokton photos, and I found a great article in Chinese, that gives you some comparo shots of a Nokton and other Leicas such as a Noctilux etc etc. If you don't understand Chinese you'll probably have to run it thru babelfish under (Simplified Chinese to English) http://leicafansclub.com/ReadNews.asp?NewsID=291

Otherwise the pictures do the talking. From those, I can see that the Nokton def has a nice modern image look in terms of contrast, certainly not as contrasty as a modern Nikkor, but around the same contrast as a 105/2.5 AIS Nikkor lens that I have.

Bokeh wise, so far I think the Nokton's bokeh looks quite OK. Just gotta avoid harsh background highlights, but I suppose this is the same no matter which lens you'r using?

I like the sharpness and overall look of that Nokton and am leaning more towards plonking down $300+ for it.. : P unless someone has a used one he/she wants to sell off! heh
 
Oh btw, does anyone have a pic of a silver bessa with a black coloured Nokton (or any other black coloured lens?) Just want to have a view of what it'll look like :)
