I have looked on eBay and have seen a good number of dodgy-looking Fed 50/3.5's. I actually have wound up with one with a frozen/gummy aperture (blades are clean, but the aperture leaver is very stiff). I'd actually be willing to pay a bit more for a US sourced lens that had been checked out. So anyone have a reputable dealer with whom they have been happy?

I have found good lenses and cameras through Yuri at fedka.com. Even if he doesn’t have stuff on his website he has helped me find a few things direct from Ukraine.

Oleg at OKvintagecamera.com might have some.
Are you looking for the original collapsible 50/3.5, I think it also was called an Industar-10.
The Industar-22 and Industar-50 are also available in collapsible. I had one early Industar, was not very good. The I-22 was better, and I-50 is better still. The collapsible lenses have a much better build quality than the rigid versions.

FED 50 3.5 is direct copy of Elmar 50 3.5. On exterior. Quality of build is highest among all collapsible Industars. Optically it is worse than I-22 and I-50. But it is safe to collapse into digital M. While I-22 and I-50 are seems to be longer than I-10 (FED 50 3.5).
Since it is same as Elmar, service of parts and elements is the same:

It is DIY.
Or you could get clean FED 50 3.5 and send it to service which does service Leica lenses.
After it will be lens with so-so optics and same price as you could get Elmar 50 3.5 in the States.
