I have had a Ricoh GRD II since it came out and enjoy shooting with it, but have always been plagued by dust showing up on the sensor. I had it repaired once when it was still under warranty. I was wondering how common it was for the new GR and if anyone has any similar incidents with it yet. I searched on line a bit an saw that a few other camera forums have a few reports out, but it seems like it has perhaps gotten better with each new version (hopefully). Really, looking at using the new Ricoh GR as my main street camera, but would rather not deal with the dust issue.

Dust will be an issue regardless of brand or model. If you do not want to deal with the dust issue, shoot film. In digital there is no way around it, every digital camera will get dust on the sensor at some point.

I was referring to just the Ricoh because it is one of the few lines of fixed digital compacts that have a history of dust getting onto the sensor. I understand dust is an issue with all digitals, this one bothers me because it is something the average user cannot fix unlike dslrs and the like.

I have a GRDII, and while I haven't had any dust issues personally, I have read of others having a problem with it.

One suggestion was to remove the battery and memory card, and hold the hose from a vacuum cleaner to the compartment, they claimed to have had good results, I'll leave it up to you to decide whether that's a good idea or not though.

Rented the GR for a week. This image is at f/11.

I owned a GRD IV and it had some dust issues. They're easily fixed if you are handy with a screw driver. Takes about 30 minutes.

Any camera that has a telescoping lens will probably have some dust issues eventually. That said I have had no issues with my GRD II, IV or GR.

I returned the GR and settled on a cheaper alternative, I do however have a Ricoh GRDII that has severe dust issues could you instruct me on how you did it with your GRDIV?

Thanks
