I have a GX1 with a few m/43 lens. The G5 with the built in viewfinder & bigger body looks like it might handle my older M lens better. I mean a little more stable, easier to handle with bigger hands.
I have a M8, but the GX1 is much easier with the grandkids moving all the time, and it has video. It does feel a little unbalanced with the weight of older M lens.

Maybe this helps, he has used the GX1. But why are you unsure? If your satisfied with your GX1 there is no reason to suspect you won't with a G5. Never having used either, I assume the grip of the G5 will be helpful to steady the camera.

I don't have either camera...I do have a gf1 and a omd.... But here is a slightly different perspective.
I recently went to the omd for the in body image stabilization system, so that I could use my Leica 90f2.8 and 135f4 on it. Outside of that and maybe a Panasonic 16mp sensor vs a Sony 16mp, handling will essentially be the same... Better grip, a vf, more traditional 3 pt hold for a better more steady shot as compared to the gx1 (gf1 in my case).
Below are some shots from the 90f2.8 on the omd. These were all taken hand held.
The shots of the squirrel were all around 50% crops.
This was taken when the wind was blowing pretty hard. About maybe a 35-40% crop.
Omd shots using Leica 135f4 TE.. All hand held from today's walk around local reservoir...
100% crop.
Shooting the shooter waiting for the eagle to come by.

I think what u were getting at when u mentioned the m8 vs the gx1 and m lenses is the difference in the balance point... A light camera body like a gx1 w/ a 50f2 or 90f2.8 is going to feel lens (nose) heavy. If u don't have a evf on the gx1, then u are going to notice this more... Both my 90 and 135 are thin implementations vs something like the 90f2 for example and don't feel that bad on the omd... But it does help that I am using my left hand under the lens as the balance point though.

I've like the feel of the G1 with a Gordy wrist strap and the camera's built-in grip to support longer lenses. The G5 grip is even better than the G1. I don't have experience with the GX1, though.
