anyone have experience with a rangefinder + holster

My cousin uses one on his D90 and he likes it. You can connect the camera with just the pin so I was thinking of going that route but I'm not entirely sure how well the camera would sit and how well the weight would distribute.

May not suit you, but a sling strap gives more flexibility in wearing and is just a convenient for shooting.
Look up the Joby Ultra Fit Sling and the BosStrap.
There are probably others of similar design.

I looked at these a while back but I think they are more suited to larger and heavier cameras, or for those who need to carry an always-to-hand backup body - I can imagine a small, compact RF flopping around and apart from being annoying and possibly deleterious to the camera, attracting more attention than just wearing it on a strap, "bandito-style".

Also it depends what sort of shooting you do; I like to go hiking and this setup looks like a great way to accidentally bash the camera on rocks, get it caught in bushes, etc., which is why I've settled on the slight inconvenience of a securely-strapped top-loading holster bag like Lowepro ot Thinktank (which also do a good job of keeping dust at bay). For shooting at (say) an airshow where you have two bodies with totally different lenses it could work very well.

thanks for the advice/suggestions but I was looking for a strapless solution.

My problem with wrist straps is that they are inconvinient when you need your hands. I prefer these when using a messenger bag because of easy access but going in and out of a bag is annoying. I do not like these with backpacks because backpacks are less accessible.

My problem with neck straps is that they are inconvinient when you are actively shooting (in my opinion). I do not like multiple straps hanging from my neck when I use a messenger bag but I don't mind these when I am using a backpack ...

In short: backpack + neck strap or messenger + wrist strap. If I have no bag then a neck strap.

Sometimes I like neck straps and othertimes I like wrist straps. I feel that the holster solution will have it's pros and it's cons too.

I will pass on the above because I don't want the strap and an empty holster would bother me. My above solution that I suggested is sleeker in my opinion in that when you are shooting all you have is a clip on your belt. I do not think I would mind the camera swinging so much while walking as I would probably hold the camera in my hand mostly and just dock the camera from time to time. However, one potentional problem is that I might get annoyed with the pin sticking out when I want to place the camera in my bag and I think cameras look/feel best without accessories (like grips and cases). Everyone is different ofcourse. This is just my opinion/thoughts.

I might just stick with neck strap since they're the most basic and safest solution that many people seem to fall back on. I think I will dedicate a thread looking for a "better" neck strap.

Oh and I forgot to mention that this is just for casual shooting. I shoot with two cameras often but never at the same time (the other is sitting in my bag).

i find using a round strap is the an excellent compromise...i wear it long, over the shoulder where the camera can be placed behind me or at my hip but very easily raised to my eye because of the round strap.
