Anyone heard anything from/about DAG?

If I went days/weeks without contcating my clients I would be dropped tomorrow.
I guess I am not as much of a wizard as DAG.
 
Yes Jay, that's the trade-off. Work hard doing people's work or not getting more of people's work to do. It's tough!
 
Must be nice to spend 99% your day fixing cameras (taking photos in my case) as opposed to 75% accounts, sales, calls etc 25% photos.
 
As an aside.....

I have had 3 repairs done at DAG.

I e mail prior to shipping and do not expect a response.

I write out a detailed letter with all needed info on the repair and on me then include it in the box.

I call and get an estimated return date about a week after Don gets it.

It sits until the expected date then I call to set up payment and check status.

He ships it back.

Pretty easy...not sure what more communication is needed 🙂

Not since the last 'Where's DAG?' thread. He does good work, but seems too busy to get back in touch with many of us.

Well - it seems like something in the order off - "where the f#*k is my camera?" 😀
 
The last time I sent something to Don I sent 4 follow-up e-mails asking for status. I got no response.

When the camera was ready he wrote to me. At that point, I thanked him and made the arrangements but also, in the PayPal "note" area, I commented on the lack of response to my prior e-mails and the fact that this subject has come up in a certain unnamed "blog" that I'm a member of.

He wrote back saying (and I'm not quoting, but paraphrasing from memory) that he spends his time doing the work rather than answering e-mail. If he responded to all the e-mails he gets he'd have no time to do the work.

From the words that Don used, I could feel sympathy for the guy. Since his work is indeed good work, and I'm just one of those folks who has great respect for craftsmen like him, I told him I understood and left it at that.

I will send him further work in the future without reservation.
 
I guess the thing is, these folks aren't marketing wizards or PR people...they're technicians.

And they're very busy, too,given that the are very few people able to fix, for instance, a Leica IIIg.

Can't hurry 'em either. What they do takes patience, time and skill. Sent a IIIg out for refurb (not to DAG) Didn't see it again for 15 months. No response to numerous e-mails. But when I got it back, the work done was worth the wait.
 
My frustration is that Don has had my equipment since December, originally quoted to be finished in January, then after nothing until May (when I finally got through to him again) it was going to be "this week", now it is September and I haven't heard anything since. Tried phone, email -- nothing.

If not for multiple folks on this board expressing confidence in his work (and confirming he is still alive) I would bet that I'd never see my gear again.
 
Just got off the phone with him. Looking at a 10 day window to get something back from him.

I mentioned this thread and he said, and I qoute, "I'm right here".
 
Do you guys think that 6 months waiting for an M7 from DAG is too long?
I am about to call him but don't know exactly how to describe my camera since I guess that he has tons of them waiting to be repaired also?
Do you have any experience with this? Thanks
 
He's had my m2 + lens since april, I've not heard anything since he received it despite having emailed him a few times, will try calling soon. I was supposed to have it back by may/june for a trip I took, no luck, ended up buying a new lens and camera for the trip

If you have a nice lens that needs to be cleaned expect 1-3 months. If you send a camera or lens that has issues expect 6 months or more. If you send him something to be modified or converted and or a combination of all the above, expect 1 year or more.
Calling and emailing only eats up more of his time i am sure, like several hours a day probably. He also has 15 children that do not help him out in the shop 🙂
Yes i have some gear at his shop that i have not seen for over a year now but i am fine with that.
I bought a Mint Minolta CL from Sherry at "Golden Touch" Full CLA and new meter. But when i got it, the meter did not work. I returned it and she kept it over 2 years. She finally returned me a Wetzlar CL that had 3 dents on it and a bad meter.
DAG does not do that.

Don is not like most people. But then, neither is his work.
He's honest, reasonable, expert, and not expensive. I think he'd tell you that if he answered emails, his turnaround time woukd double.
It's hard to say, "just relax", and not what we aren't wanting to hear.
You can, though. When it comes back, you'll be glad you waited.
I have been.
