Hello, and I don't want to bring anyone down, but has anyone heard from Sherry Krauter recently (last 6-12 months)? I picked up an M4 body today from a dealer & when I mentioned i'd send it to Sherry for a CLA & M6 eye-bumper he said that another customer said he hadn't had any responses to telephone calls or emails for 6+months. He'd sent in a couple of M-bodies in for work about a year ago and began trying to contact her for updates. Customer mentioned (non-specific) that he'd heard her health was declining. Any actual information out there? My technical/commercial needs aside, she was a great person to deal with and an interesting/informative phone chat as well. If this post gets shifted to another forum/thread, let me know.--alfredian (Silver Spring, Maryland, USA)

there's been too much negative feedback regarding her professionalism over the past few
years for me to chance sending her something. she is a very amusing person to talk to on the phone, ill give you that.

It used to be the rule that the best time to phone Sherry is in the evening, since she is likely to be working on cameras during the day.

However, I will be at the Leica annual meet next month, and I can ask. She might even be there. She has done wonderful work for me, e.g. restoring an M3. I wouldn't take gossip about her too seriously.

Sherry Krauer Experience

I just recently had a Leica M5 CLA'd by Sherry. Sent her an e-mail back in late May/early June; she replied that I should call her which I did. Pleasant and useful conversation followed after which I mailed her the camera on 6/9/17. Received the camera back on 8/27/17; She notified me by e-mail that the CLA was complete and the payment amount. Haven't opened the box yet, but I assume the camera will be in good working order. All in all, a very positive experience. Not quite a twelve week turnaround which I think is quite good.

Would you mind sharing the cost of the CLA? I am considering getting an M5 and would factor in the cost of a CLA in the purchase price.
If you don't want to post it, PM would be fine.

Thanks

I spoke with her about four months ago. I have 50mm summicron dual range with stiff focus and wanted her to fix it. I asked about turn around time and she said I should call her In about a month. I called a couple of weeks ago and she said she had health problems and I should call back in a month. I personally would not send her anything until she said she could turn it in a few weeks. As it is now she is effectively telling me she doesn't want new work for a while.

Regarding the m5: I needed a cla for an m3 in October 2015. I was going on vacation in a couple of weeks and she said she could have it done in three but would loan me an M5 for my vacation. I told her it was kind to offer but no thanks, but she insisted so I sent her my M3 and she sent me the m5. I'd never did business with her before and she didn't know me from Adam. With that kindness, and how clean the m3 was when I got it back, she won a customer for life.

Having said all that, I'll repeat that I would not send her new work until she told me the turn around time.

By the way, cla was about $400 with a new shutter curtain.

I sent her my 35mm Lux ASPH for a CLA and tightening up on 4/19/17. She sent me an email on the 19th saying 4 week turnaround. I received the lens back in perfect condition on 4/24/17. She called while it was in transit to recommend that I pack it in foam whenever I fly so as to avoid future need for the tightening.Ii'll do as she says. She's an awesome tech.
