The D750 can measure exposure with lenses that contain no CPU with the aperture pick up tab around the lens mount. If you set custom function f5 to use that, the camera will measure exposure based on that. As a freelensed lens neither moves the tab, and also doesn't respond to the aperture lever, the measured value is the correct exposure.How do you determine exposure? Same as if the lens was attached? I ask because on my D750 the AE auto exposure...
There's a caveat of course, as it doesn't exactly meter through the lens, but measures the entire field of view, including the back side of the lens and light slipping around it. That may also explain the wildly varying exposure..
