Jan as in "Jan and Dean"
It's getting to be that time of year again ( at least here in Chicago ) where I start to clear out the weeds and fertilize ( all natural and no pesticides ) the vegetable garden. In keeping with the spirit of "old-fashioned-ness" often found among members of RFF ( and my own nearly-luddite dislike of technology ), I plant mostly heirloom plants. My favorites are tomatoes, of which I had about 18 plants last year, and peppers ( red, yellow and orange ). I had a few other things, as well. I actually have a fairly large garden for the size of my city lot. Needless to say, I enjoy getting out and "working the soil" so to speak. It's cathartic, and I love the pay-off!
