I think this 'stuff' is on the internal join of a rangefinder prism box. Anyone know what it is? (Don't say "expensive"!)

Balsam deterioration. And depending on the camera, yes, it can be expensive. But...it could be something else, depending what surface it is on, like one of the mirrors. Still, it depends on the camera how much it will cost to fix. You may have to source parts from another body, and sometimes the donor body is in better shape than the receiving body.

That would be my guess. Shouldn't lens balsam melt at a certain temperature? That could even out those "bubbles", couldn't it?^Does it involve heat ? Peter
