anyone printed from a sony rx100 file yet?

this rx100 ia an amazing little camera!
i can't stop using it!

yesterday i went out with an rd1 and the rx100...the rd1 felt massive in my hands while the rx100 kind of floated in my hand...the more i use it the less i want to use any other camera!

i need to get some prints made from my files but i'm waiting on being able to use raw first. i'm a pse user and so far no raw converter has been released (afaik)...
but i'm thinking if i can get a decent 11x14 print then this camera might be all i need...

has anyone printed any images yet? what are your thoughts?

i find it amazing that i am even having these thoughts!?

Joe, I've printed a couple to A4 and they look fine to my eye. There's certainly lots of sharpness and resolution there. I suspect shots at base ISO up to about 400 will print to 11x14 pretty easily, I do notice a certain blotchiness in higher ISO shots from the in camera noise reduction. I'm curious as well so I may print a larger one as a test - if I do I'll report back.

Attached is a chart that I found at imaging resource that shows relative print size versus iso value used. Also compares a couple of different cameras. Your mileage is going to definitely vary, but does give an idea of what can be done with the camera.

It did very well against some well respected APS-c cameras. But this was a controlled test environment... Real world is what counts which is why I mentioned ymmv..🙄

Since the biggest I ever print is 13x19 and I normally print 8x10... If I use max of 1600, I should be fine real world.

i do 5x7, 8x10, 8x12 and occasionally 11x14...haven't done 16x20 in years so i'm thinking i'll be fine as well.

i'd like to standarize on a size and begin trying to sell some prints in the future... one size one price...keep it simple.

I did a test print at ISO 125 (funny how the auto ISO won't go down to 100), colour with semi-gloss paper @ 12x15 with hardly any output sharpening.
Results were excellent, I don't think anyone would be displeased.
It might actually look better than prints from my A77, but I can't say anything from a single print.

I'm going to do some colour and b&w tests later tonight at higher ISOs. I'm guessing at this size 800 is pushing it, but we'll see.

Did a few more prints at ISO 800 and ISO 1600. Excellent results up to 400, and 800 and 1600 are good enough for me. Slightly smearing of fine detail is visible at ISO 800+ when you look at it up close or in very detail-heavy scenes, but it's surprisingly workable.

So in conclusion, I'm amazed to say I think I agree with that table above, up to 12x15ish size prints anyway.
I'd happily go up to 1600, as the lost of detail at normal viewing distances is minor if you're careful with the noise reduction.
