Hey,

Just curious. Has anyone tried out this cool looking DR5 process that a single lab does in LA?

www.dr5.com

It looks really interesting, I'm curious what people's experiences have been. I did unearth this disturbing exchange on photo.net though...

I'm not involved in it, (and I sure as hell don't want to be) but, ahhh... it looks like homeboy was flying a touch off the handle. I'd really like to know what peoples individual experiences have been, (if any.)

cheers,

adam

Well Jeez, that was a horrible thread to read. I have had nothing but good experiences with dr5. The process is great, and David was very good about getting me the best results from some Type-R prints he made for me. I really like the results and have had a great experience with dr5. I have had them process scala that has come out very well, and Delta 100 at 80 which is just gorgeous. Here are a few samples:

Here are some medium format ones (scala I think)...Mamiya 7II, 80mm and 43mm lenses.

Thanks a lot Stuart. Those shots ARE real nice. Esp. the medium format ones. Do you have any that were just processed with the normal scala method. I just picked up a 5 pack of scala today and am busy messing around with it. I'm going to get it processed at my local place before trying out the DR5 dudes. If it looks good then I probably won't bother with shipping it across the country.

What are your experiences with it?

Overall, I think dr5 did a better job of processing Scala than Duggal in NYC, which is where I had them done (I grew up on CT, so I knew about them). My slides from duggal came back a bit dusty and just ok. Here are a few of Scala processed by them (35mm only). I believe most shots were with the collapsible summicron.

These are regular scala processed in a lab in CA, but I still like dr5 better. All 35mm f/1.4 summilux ASPH

I saw this photo and thought "Hey, I know that place!" I've lived in Santa Barbara most of my life (but not anymore). It's really nice to see one of the most beautiful buildings in the U.S. again.

Hahaha, yes it is still there! I live half a block from it, so I walk past it several times a day. I walk right through the grounds every day to go to Coffee Cat. I have millions of pictures of it...
