Around 2001 I had SK Grimes make a Summitar to 39mm adapter ring. I sent them my Summitar and the Leica 12585 lens hood.
They made a perfect adapter ring with a groove so that the Leica 12585 shade would clip on. IMHO this is the best way to go. I sold the Summitar to get a Zeiss 50mm Planar in M mount. I should have kept the adapter ring!
I also had them do the same to my Canon 50mm f/1.8 which I still have.
It was a 40mm to 39mm step down ring with a groove.
Uses 39mm filters and a nice vented Leica shade. Well worth the effort.
The one below in the link works well as an alternative and looks good (I think). Its much less obtrusive than the vented type and to my way of thinking looks more in keeping with a lens of the Summitar's vintage. It does not vignette despite what one might think.
It's only available in 43mm so you will need to add a couple of bucks for a 39-43mm step ring. And of course an adapter to use standard E39mm filters as well, but I take it you know that already.
