Anyone tried this R-D1 case?

Actually this is the original Epson R-D1s case as listed among the accessories on Epson's dedicated site in Japan. I ordered one from Map Camera in Tokyo (it is less expensive than in Malaysia), but not only didn't they have it in stock, they told me that it was not regularly produced and would incur several months backorder. As an altenative I found the Malaysian site, but it is apparently the same problem: it is not available. So I gave up, canceled the order and purchased instead an Artisan and Artist half case (sorry Luigi but it is much cheaper...) which is very nice.

I've heard the same things about the Epson case: it's unavailable. Same goes for original Epson R-D1 batteries. Haven't been able to find a single one in the past year and a half. The R-D1 is a fine camera but Epson's support is almost non-existent and the accessories as well.

I want a full case to nurture my new-to-me R-D1. Was considering hacking a Bessa case from Stephen Gandy (like Luigi's cases, but too much $$$ for me this time). But has anyone tried this this case (leather, $170) or have knowledge of Shashinki?

The owner of Shashinki is a Malaysian living in Japan. He's also one of the administrators of a Malaysian photography forum. I've bought from him twice before without any problems, fast shipping and well packed - first time was a portable HD for downloading images from memory cards, second time was the Kenko polarizer system for RF cameras.

Robert White has supplies of batteries, I bought two from them a couple of weeks ago.

Remy,

I bought my battery in Holland from the online Epson store. No problem what so ever.

I stand corrected. I guess I got fed up with searching high and low and didn't other to try again recently. :)

I have one too, but, I'm less happy - there is very little room the lens. Does not work with my 24mm elmarit, or 35mm summicron with hood.

I've found exactly the same problem with the Epson case. You can only use the top half with lenses like the 35mm Summicron or pre asph Summilux without a hood. I wonder which lens the case was designed for, the design doesn't make sense. In addition the top left hand corner of the lower case is cut away at an angle and doesn't extend up to the LCD hinge, giving very little protection. Again there's no obvious reason for this.

I'm afraid mine's been relegated to being an expensive half case :(

Bob.

Dear Friends, RFF users,

I beg your pardon if I post this "defense" of my cases ! But, to compare
ONLY the various cases prices, without to consider the leather(s) quality,
and even more the HAND stitching, that ONLY most of my cases are
offering, fatally gives a wrong comparation result...

As far as I know, my cases are the LONE around that are HAND STITCHED,
along all the bottom edge perimeter, AND, for the FULL cases, also along all
the long front edges !

I make also a quite less costly model of my cases, that I call "ECO"(nomic),
NOT hand stitched, but still using the same quality leathers either for the
external, and for the inner lining.

Now, after reading some of your useful comments, I decided to design and to
put into production a new model of my FULL cases, NOT hand stitched, that
will be surely a lot less costly... I am willing to make soon a prototype, and to
post it somewhere for your comments, and possible suggestions !

Many thanks, ciao, Luigi

Dear Luigi, I would never 'dis' your cases, they are wonderful. I still use one of your cases on my M4. However, the wonderful Hexar RF case you made for me was not a wise investment. Why? Because it outlasted the camera!

I look forward to seeing your new case...

I have Luigi's full black leather case for the RD1 and must say it is not only beatiful but also makes me feel like the camera is really protected. I bought it used "like new" for 1/2 price but now that I've had it for a while I would not hesitate to pay the full price, it really is that good, IMHO.

I bought my R-D1s from ShaShinki shipped from Japan to US. Very satisfied with the transaction. They gave me the new lower price than what was on the web site when I bought it.
